  • American journalist Tucker Carlson could be banned from visiting the European Union after interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin, Newsweek said on Wednesday, quoting one former and two current MEPs. The former Fox News host was spotted in Moscow last weekend and revealed on Tuesday that he would be interviewing Putin. The interview will be posted on X (formerly Twitter), with the platform’s owner Elon Musk guaranteeing it won’t be censored, Carlson said. Former Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt, now a member of the European Parliament, has already called for Carlson to be banned from the bloc.

  • Another gathering of demons is behind us, as the World Economic Forum (WEF) Davos 2024 confab has come to an end. The conference theme was “ Rebuilding Trust” , but no one admitted any wrongdoing. Attendees watched Pfizer ‘s Albert Bourla talk about his company’s adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). They saw depopulation advocate Bill “ Bugman ” Gates carry out the climate hoax . John Kerry appeared on four different stages to discuss the “ energy transition .” We also saw Klaus Schwab sit down for a face-to-face meeting with China’s second-highest-ranking government official. On none of these panels did anyone show any regret for their decisions. Not surprisingly, none of the catastrophic “mistakes” made during the era of Covid hysteria ever came to light. Some have devised even more authoritarian solutions to the “problems” facing humanity. Gates, for his part, said he is working on vaccine patches so that next time the spread of substandard pharmaceuticals will be even greater. For WEF advocates, “Rebuilding Trust” often meant doing a better job of silencing people by filtering out what they deemed “misinformation” from “disinformation . ” In short, the problem isn’t them, it’s the people who are in the way. To rebuild trust, they want independent platforms like this eliminated, through invasive surveillance and censorship measures. ~ blacklistednews.com

  • A italian 23-year-old took his own life live on TikTok in front of thousands of users. From what we understand, the extreme gesture was carried out after a 17-year-old girl, who he had met online and with whom he had started chatting, spread some of her private messages, which attracted accusing comments, insults and fooling around. The young man – known on the web by the nickname Inquisitor Ghost – apparently committed suicide after dressing as the character from one of the most famous war video games, Call of Duty. From the TikTok chats “it emerged that he had suffered all types of harassment, even very serious threats” and, in particular, in an exchange of messages between him and a friend, according to the lawyer, “there is proven proof that the boy was instigated to commit suicide”.The police are investigating the incident.

  • The Dead Internet Theory is the belief that the vast majority of internet traffic, posts and users have been replaced by bots and AI-generated content, and that people no longer shape the direction of the internet. The theory was floating around 4Chan in the late 2010s, but it was solidified and amplified in 2021 after a lengthy post describing the theory was posted on a thread titled “Dead Internet Theory: Most Of The Internet Is Fake,” on the forum Agora Road’s Macintosh Cafe. But the theory goes further than simply condemning today’s internet as dull, corporate slop—the post suggests that we rarely interact with real humans on the internet, or even see posts created by them. He also delves into some strange ideas, suggesting that the popularity of Raptor Jesus, Foul Bachelor Frog and Pepe the Frog memes are evidence of an evolving AI life-form changing its shape.

  • Concerns are mounting over Houthi threats to international internet traffic and the transmission of financial data, with Yemeni telecoms firms having sounded the alarm about the militant group’s plans to sabotage submarine cables in the Red Sea. Yemen’s General Telecommunications Company, which is linked to the UN-recognised government, yesterday (4 February) released a statement condemning the Houthis’ “threats to target international marine cables”. Approximately 17% of the world’s internet traffic is carried along fibre pipes in the Red Sea. On 24 December, a Houthi-linked Telegram channel posted a map showing the convergence of communications cables in the Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf, accompanied by an ominous message about Yemen’s “strategic location”. “Yemen is near a disproportionate number of international undersea internet cables, especially along its western coast where the Houthis have the greatest support,” explains Wilson Jones, defence analyst at GlobalData.

  • Meta says it will introduce technology that can detect and label images generated by other companies’ artificial intelligence (AI) tools. It will be deployed on its platforms Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Meta already labels AI images generated by its own systems. It says it hopes the new tech, which it is still building, will create “momentum” for the industry to tackle AI fakery. But an AI expert told the BBC such tools are “easily evadable”.

  • A multi-disciplinary research team specializing in canine behavior and artificial intelligence has developed an AI algorithm that automates the high-stakes process of evaluating potential working dogs’ personalities. They hope to help dog training agencies more quickly and accurately assess which animals are likely to succeed long term in careers such as aiding law enforcement and assisting persons with disabilities. The personality test could also be used for dog-human matchmaking, helping shelters with proper placement, thus reducing the number of animals returned for not being a good fit with their adoptive families. The scientists, from the University of East London and University of Pennsylvania, conducted the research on behalf of Dogvatar, a Miami, Fla.-based canine technology startup.

  • Apple’s much-hyped Vision Pro headset officially landed on store shelves this past Friday, and almost immediately thereafter, early adopters started wearing the device in public spaces. Over the weekend, social media platforms were flooded with sightings of Vision Pro users out in the wild, oftentimes in odd, unusual, and downright ill-advised situations. “The Simpsons” appears to have predicted another cultural moment, with social media users pointing out the similarities between a device depicted in a 2016 episode of the Fox series and Apple’s recently released Apple Vision Pro spatial computer. In the episode called “Friends and Family,” denizens of the fictional city of Springfield are seen using devices that appear eerily similar to the Vision Pro. The devices cause chaos in the city as characters lose their sense of space, walking into light poles and falling into manholes.

  • Researchers from GNS Science, a New Zealand research institute, meticulously mapped approximately 68% of Lake Rotorua’s floor, spanning 55 sq km. Their efforts revealed eruption craters, remnants of an ancient river, and a significant magnetic anomaly in the southern part of the lake. For the first time, these discoveries validate that the familiar hydrothermal activity observed on the mainland also reaches into the submerged domain of Lake Rotorua. The mapping project, conducted with the assistance of the Royal New Zealand Navy, employed advanced multibeam echo sounder technology to figure out the lake’s physical features. Magnetic surveys that were carried out during the exploration uncovered an unexpected magnetic anomaly. Although volcanic rocks usually display robust positive magnetic responses owing to magnetite, the identified anomaly indicates that hydrothermal fluids have altered the magnetite into pyrite, commonly known as fool’s gold, leading to a markedly reduced magnetic signal.

  • The minerality of a terroir may mean nothing to them; they likely cannot tell oaky from herbaceous, or a Bordeaux from a Burgundy, but that has not stopped large numbers of Indians from taking to wine-drinking in recent years, at a speed that makes their country the toast of the world’s emerging wine markets. From 1 million liters in 2001, consumption of wine in India had grown to more than 34 million liters by 2021, a 3,300% rise over two decades. Those numbers tell a story of transformation, not just of a wine-drinking culture taking root slowly but also of progress in wine-making and marketing in an industry not permitted to advertise.

  • Saudi Arabia will not establish formal ties with Israel until it recognizes an independent Palestinian state and ceases its “aggression” against Gaza, the Foreign Ministry in Riyadh has said. In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry revealed it had informed the US “that there will be no diplomatic relations with Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is recognized on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and that the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip stops and all Israeli occupation forces withdraw from the Gaza Strip.” “The Kingdom reiterates its call to the permanent members of the UN Security Council…to expedite the recognition of the Palestinian state,” the ministry continued, declaring that this would help ensure “that a comprehensive and just peace is achieved for all.”

  • Even the briefest assessment of how the West’s innumerable wars have been portrayed in a client media quickly yields irrefutable evidence that the marketing of conflicts, as justified by Western powers, is central to their continued legitimization. Since the Second World War, the US has been directly and indirectly involved in dozens of wars and coups d’état alongside innumerable covert and overt conflicts across the globe. Given the vast resources required to perpetuate this aggressive global mechanism of influence, its important to recognize that the taxpayers being asked to fund these “forever wars” may never have gone along with them without the assistance and covert alignment of a client media. ~ Chay Bowes

  • Senegalese authorities must reverse their decision to delay the country’s presidential election by ten months, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) demanded on Tuesday. The parliamentary-approved postponement has sparked outrage in the former French colony, which has been embroiled in deadly protests in recent months. The West African country had planned to go to the polls on February 25, but President Macky Sall postponed the vote on Saturday, citing a disagreement between the judiciary and federal lawmakers over the exclusion of key opposition candidates from the final electoral register. A scuffle broke out in the Senegalese parliament on Monday when opposition MPs attempted to block a vote on a bill that rescheduled the election to December 15. Several of the 20 opposition parties and candidates cleared for the presidential race have denounced the delay as an “institutional coup,” with at least three of them reportedly filing legal challenges.

  • The political nature of Finland’s refusal to reopen its borders with Russia is evidenced by the fact that Helsinki is rejecting any suggestion of talks with Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told to RIA Novosti on Wednesday. Finnish authorities are expected to make a new decision on the status of the Russian border on Thursday. However, Finnish media outlet Ilta Sanomat has claimed that the country’s government intends to keep the border closed until at least February 11 and is looking for a more “sustainable solution beyond simply temporarily extending the closure again.” Finland closed all land crossings with Russia in late November 2023, citing an influx of migrants from Africa and the Middle East seeking to enter the country. Helsinki has accused Moscow of orchestrating the surge in asylum seekers, calling it a “hybrid operation.”

  • Kenyan cult leader Paul Mackenzie has been charged with murdering 191 children, whose bodies were found buried in a forest. He had already been charged with committing acts of terror, child cruelty, and torture. On Tuesday, a court in the coastal town of Malindi also charged 29 of Mackenzie’s followers, although one was found to be mentally unfit to stand trial. All of the accused had undergone mental health evaluations in accordance with the orders of a judge last month. The defendants deny the charges and are scheduled to appear before the court on March 7 for a bond hearing. Paul Mackenzie allegedly instructed his followers to starve themselves to death so that they would “meet Jesus Christ before the end of the world.” However, autopsies show that some of the victims died from strangulation or suffocation.

  • The future of Mars exploration will be greatly enhanced by humans that make the sojourn to the Red Planet. The work that could be performed by astronaut crews on that distant world would far outstrip what mechanized Mars machinery can attain – but certainly at a far greater cost. NASA moon-to-Mars architecture workshops are being held later this month, hosted by the Space Studies Board of the National Academies. According to a statement by Nujoud Merancy, Deputy Associate Administrator for NASA’s Strategy and Architecture Office within the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, the space agency is searching for views on science and technology investments that can help lead to a sustainable human return to the moon and dispatching crews to Mars.

  • A dead European satellite will come crashing back to Earth later this month, in a fiery death dive that its handlers will monitor carefully. The incoming spacecraft is the European Space Agency’s (ESA) European Remote Sensing 2 (ERS-2) satellite, which launched to Earth orbit in April 1995 and wrapped up its Earth-observing duties in September 2011. ESA began preparing for ERS-2’s demise even before its primary mission ended, performing 66 engine burns in July and August of 2011. Those maneuvers “used up the satellite’s remaining fuel and lowered its average altitude from 785 km [488 miles] to about 573 km [356 miles] in order to greatly reduce the risk of collision with other satellites or space debris and to ensure the satellite’s orbit would decay fast enough for it to reenter Earth’s atmosphere within the next 15 years,” ESA officials wrote in an FAQ about the coming reentry.

News Burst 8 February 2024 - Venice Carnival

Italy

Venice Carnival began in 1162 CE, in celebration of the Venice Republic’s victory over its enemy; the Patriarch of Aquileia. The people of Venice gathered in Saint Mark’s Square (San Marco) to dance and celebrate their victory. Ever since then, the victory was celebrated in the streets of Venice. Venice Carnival carried on for several centuries until it was outlawed in 1797 CE, while Venice was under the rule of Francis II, the Holy Roman Emperor. Venetians’ use of masks to conceal their identities was also banned at the time. #archaeohistories
