  • Elon Musk has hit out at the Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD) and its so-called “Russian bot dashboard” Hamilton68 for labeling Twitter accounts that it disagreed with as assets supposedly linked to the Kremlin. The billionaire illustrated his point with a mockup of a children’s book on justifying political failures in the media and government, titled ‘Everyone I don’t agree with is a Russian Bot’. His response comes after internal Twitter messages published by journalist Matt Taibbi on Friday revealed that the Hamilton68 dashboard knowingly mislabeled the accounts of real Americans as “Russian Bots.” The creators of the tool at one point claimed to be tracking over 600 accounts with alleged ties to the Kremlin to provide the West with an authentic view on Russian “influence operations.” Hamilton68 was later used as a source by numerous major Western media outlets and even academic publications to claim that Russian bots were pushing conspiracy theories and promoting terms like “deep state” as well as hashtags such as #ReleaseTheMemo, #SchumerShutdown, #AlabamaSenateRace, and #ParklandShooting.

  • Bill Gates has revealed that he complained to high tech companies about conspiracy theories on social media linking him to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) said in a report on Monday. Some of the theories alleged that Gates pushed mandating the COVID-19 vaccines in order to profit, to enforce a system of electronic surveillance and control and even for the purposes of depopulation, among others. “The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has donated $751 million to the UN World Health Organization to fight the COVID-19 pandemic – a sum larger than any provided by national governments with exception of Germany,” the report added.

  • A senior US military official confidentially told British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace that the UK’s armed forces are no longer on par with those of the leading world powers, Sky News claims. The broadcaster, citing anonymous defense sources, said that years of cost-cutting measures by successive governments have made the country’s military a “hollow force.” The conclusion of the US general regarding the UK’s fighting capabilities was unsettling for London: “You haven’t got a tier one. It’s barely tier two.” According to Sky News, the general classed the armed forces of the US, China, Russia, and France as tier-one powers, with Germany and Italy representing tier-two armies.

  • The Scottish government announced on Sunday that it would provisionally stop having some transgender prisoners sent to female jails. Officials clarified that the measure would apply to those inmates who are known to have acted violently toward women in the past. The change in stance came shortly after convicted rapist Isla Bryson was transferred to the country’s sole all-female prison last week, a move that elicited a public outcry. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon eventually intervened and ordered the transgender prisoner removed from the female facility.

  • The Cardinal of Quebec Marc Ouellet considered as a potential successor to Pope Francis, accused of sexual assault in August, resigned upon reaching “age limit”, the Vatican informed on Monday. “The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the offices of prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, presented, upon reaching the age limit, by His Eminence Cardinal Marc Ouellet.” According to the statement, Ouellet called on Bishop Francis Prevost, currently serving in the region of Chiclayo in Peru, to succeed him, and assume office on April 12, 2023. In August 2022, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, aged 78, was named in a class-action lawsuit for sexual assault, by a woman born in 1984 who reported the abuses taking place on multiple occasions between 2008-2010.

  • According to the Iran’s deputy finance minister, Ali Fekri, Russia “had brought some $2.7 billion worth of investment to two petroleum projects in Iran’s Western province of Ilam in the past 15 months.” The figure accounts for some 45% of the total foreign investment attracted by Tehran over the period, Fekri noted. The UAE, Afghanistan, Türkiye and China were also among Iran’s biggest investors in the reporting period. However, Fekri noted that Beijing had notably reduced spending in 2022. The two nations sealed a number of agreements expanding trade and concluded contracts on the joint construction of gas pipelines.

  • Former CIA director and ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that a solution to the Ukraine conflict needs to be acceptable to both Russians and Ukrainians. “Every day this goes on creates enormous risk for us, for America,” Pompeo told Dave Rubin in a YouTube interview, published on Sunday. “We’ve got to get this to end. I only know one way to get it to end and that is to provide the Ukrainians with the tools that they need … We should then find a solution that had two features – one, it’s going to have to be acceptable to both, to Russian people and the Ukrainian people.” A solution needs to have a permanency, Pompeo stressed.

  • Due to his alleged crimes, South African Gerhard Ackerman has been likened to Jeffrey Epstein, an American financier who was convinced of child trafficking and procuring a child for prostitution. Alleged pedophile and child sex ring kingpin Gerhard “Gerrie” Ackerman has been re-arrested after an escape attempt and will face trial at the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Monday, local media report. The alleged 52-year-old criminal was arrested at the Florida Junction shopping center near Johannesburg after being spotted and recognized by residents. “The role played by the South African media in his apprehension must be applauded as the images circulated by the media led to members of the public spotting Ackerman in Florida in the west of Johannesburg,” said Phindi Mjonondwane, National Prosecuting Authority representative.

  • On Sunday, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene warned that the US dollar may cease to be the world’s currency as a result of the Ukrainian conflict, also arguing that Russia managed to prove that it doesn’t need the greenbacks in order to successfully develop economy. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said last week that BRICS members are working to boost payments in national currencies over what he described as unreliable mechanisms of the dollar system. The creation of a BRICS currency is “inevitable” process because the group’s member states “are interested in reducing their exposure to the US dollar and in internationalizing their currencies,” Gal Luft, director of the Washington-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, has declared.

  • A joint research group from Uppsala University (Sweden), the universities of York and Tallinn, the National Museum in Copenhagen and RG Analysis on the Aland archipelago (Finland) analyzed the bone material of 68 different game pieces from graves in Sweden, Denmark and Estonia and found that they are made almost exclusively of North European right whale or its close cousin the Greenland bowhead whale. This was established by using a method called ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry). This largely contradicts previous assumptions that large-scale whaling in Scandinavia originated in the Viking Age hundreds of years later. The results indicate that a hunt for large coastal whales began as early as the 6th century — possibly in northern Norway.

  • On March 23, Shou Zi Chew, who took over as TikTok CEO in April 2021, will testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, according to US media. “We’ve made our concerns clear with TikTok. It is now time to continue the committee’s efforts to hold Big Tech accountable by bringing TikTok before the committee to provide complete and honest answers for people,” the committee’s chair, Republican Cathy McMorris Rodgers said in a statement as quoted by US media. TikTok has at least 100 million users in the United States.

  • The Hubble Space Telescope captured a stunning image of a small region of Westerhout 5, also known as the Soul Nebula, glowing red. The suffusion of red light is caused by H-alpha emission, which happens when very energetic electrons within hydrogen atoms lose energy, causing the release of this distinctive red light, Hubble representatives wrote in a description of the image. This red light also reveals a range of fascinating features, such as a so-called free-floating evaporating gaseous globule (frEGG).
