- A Twitter account, called @ElonJet, which tracks the movements of Elon Musk’s private jet around the world. @ElonJet is one of 15 flight-tracking accounts Jack Sweeney has created, run by bots he’s programmed to parse the data and tweet every time a chosen plane takes off or lands. Each one follows a high-profile person, almost all in tech, including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. But Musk’s tracker is the most popular, with nearly 83,000 followers. Elon Musk made his own offer: $5,000 to delete the account and help the billionaire keep “crazy people” from tracking his location. Sweeney told Musk to add another 0. “Any chance to up that to $50k? It would be great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car maybe even a Model 3.” Musk said he’d think about it. But so far, he hasn’t paid Sweeney a dime.
- Experts say the Queen ‘swiftly and ruthlessly’ forced Andrew to step down from his remaining royal patronages and demanded he fight the case as a ‘private citizen’. In demanding a trial, Andrew will open himself up to being cross-examined on camera by one of America’s most feared trial lawyers, with embarrassing questions on everything from his sex life and ‘private parts’ to what he has told the Queen. Ms Roberts’ New York attorney David Boies said his team seek to ‘depose between ten to 12 people’, and admitted this could include Sarah, the Duchess of York, as well as Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Media lawyer Mark Stephens said the legal proceedings will overshadow the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and threaten the existence of the monarchy.

- Catalonia’s parliament has issued a resolution offering a formal pardon for the up to 1,000 people – among them over 700 women, who were “tried, tortured and executed” on “witchcraft” charges between the 15th and 18th centuries. Local historians discovered Catalonia to have been a pioneer of sorts when it came to witch hunts, with the practice starting there in the 1470s, and what’s believed to be the first European law against witchcraft enacted in the Catalonian city of Lleida in 1424. Unlike much of the rest of Western Europe, where witch hunts and trials largely died down after the mid-17th century, in Catalonia the practice continued to flourish into the 18th century, with some villages even hiring ‘witch-finders’.
- Emotions are still brewing in Israel, a week after the Calcalist news website revealed that the country’s police were using NSO’s Pegasus spyware system to hack the phones of Israeli citizens. According to that report, the police have been snooping into the phones of private citizens for years, and many of the people who have been targeted were law-abiding civilians. They included mayors, leaders of political protests and former government employees.
- Gandhi claimed that his reach and followers has reduced drastically since then. With 19.5 million followers on Twitter, Rahul Gandhi is one of the most-followed politicians on social media. The Wall Street Journal has independently established, using two social media analytics companies, Emplifi and Social Blade, that Gandhi, on an average gained nearly 400,000 new users per month from January to July 2021. This figure sharply dipped after the suspension of his account. From September to December, he has gained less than 2,500 followers per month. Congress parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi has written to Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal, alleging that the micro-blogging site is unknowingly complicit in curbing free and fair speech in India.
- A team of researchers led by Dr. Natasha Hurley-Walker, an astrophysicist from the Curtin University node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), has detected an unusual object in space that emits a giant burst of energy about three times per hour. According to phys.org, the object in question is “unlike anything astronomers have seen before”, though the team suspects that their find could be a neutron star or a white dwarf with an “ultra-powerful” magnetic field.
- Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has apologized to his fellow citizens after heavy snowfall paralyzed traffic in Athens, leaving thousands of motorists trapped on blocked highways. Snowstorm Elpis, which has also wreaked havoc in Turkey, made landfall in Greece on Monday night. An estimated 4,000 motorists were left struck there for hours in sub-freezing temperatures. Some eventually abandoned their vehicles and made their way home on foot or found shelter in the capital’s airport. According to the premier “Mediterranean country’s infrastructure is not always adapted to conditions of heavy snowfall.”

Many people went out on Wednesday evening to walk around Jerusalem and enjoy the experience.
- Speaking late Wednesday to news broadcaster ORTM1, Abdoulaye Maiga warned the Danes about France’s “colonial reflexes.” Denmark had previously sent 105 military personnel to the West African nation as part of a French-run counterterrorism unit. “We invite them [the Danes] to be careful about some partners who sadly have problems getting rid of their colonial reflexes,” Maiga said, again rejecting claims that the Danish troops were there legally.

- The warning in question seems to be nothing new for those living in Florida, as NWS Miami made a similar announcement last year. Residents in south Florida have received a somewhat unusual weather warning about the possibility that they’ll find scaly creatures in their showers, caused by dropping temperatures. Floridians were literally warned that iguanas may start falling from trees where they may reside in a dormant state prompted by cool weather, with the warnings stressing the fact that these reptiles are not dead. “Don’t approach. Once the sun is out, they will move,” tweeted Vivian Gonzales, weather anchor at WSVN.

Atacama Desert, Chile
Chile’s environment officials have called on the UK to ‘take responsibility’ and stop thousands of tonnes of clothes from Europe and the United States being illegally dumped in the Atacama Desert. Maisa Rojas, Chile’s incoming environment minister, said that the ‘fast fashion’ industry fuelled by Western demand for cheap clothing ultimately leads to huge mountains of discarded textiles being burned in the deserts of South America. Speaking to the BBC, she warned the practice has ‘environmental consequences for the whole planet’ and called on Britain to put an end to the scandal.

Triple Green Flash
This is a sign of very strong temperature inversions (warm air above cold) over the Pacific Ocean. Strong inversions produce ‘ducts’. Rays from the setting sun get trapped in these ducts, bouncing up and down and traveling long distances in layers sometimes only a few inches thick. A trio of ducts split the green flash into a stack of green flashes. You can actually see the ducts edge-on in James W. Young picture–a marvel, indeed.
