  • Danish authorities have said they will permit the Russian-owned operator of the sabotaged Nord Stream 2 pipeline to take part in the salvaging of a mystery object discovered in the country’s territorial waters. The EU state’s warships were recently spotted in the area close to the damaged pipeline. Copenhagen is seeking to clarify the nature of the object, which the Danish Energy Agency will endeavor to do with assistance from the military, according to a statement on Thursday. Nord Stream 2 AG – whose parent company is Russian energy giant Gazprom – has been invited to participate “in that context,” the statement added. The Kremlin in a Friday briefing called the recovery and examination of the object “critically important” as it has been discovered lying next to one of the damaged Nord Stream pipelines.

  • North Korea has tested a new “underwater nuclear strategic weapon,” claiming the platform can produce a “radioactive tsunami.” The trials were intended to confirm the “lethal strike capability” of the new “secret weapon,” which has been dubbed “Tsunami.” “This nuclear unmanned underwater attack craft can be put into operation by towing to any coast or port or surface vessel,” the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

  • Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has included Austrian banking group Raiffeisen in its list of international sponsors of war. According to an agency statement on Thursday, the designation is due to the continued operation of the bank in Russia and to its official recognition (through its representative office) of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), which were recognized by Moscow as independent states in February 2022. NACP expressed discontent with the fact that the Russian branch of Raiffeisen provides favorable credit terms to the Russian military, and that it also uses the wording ‘special military operation’ in its documents.

  • Earlier this week, ChatGPT users noticed a bug that enabled them to view the chat history titles of other users. OpenAI’s highly popular AI chatbot was then taken offline while the developers addressed the problem. It was only until Friday that OpenAI disclosed the possibility that the same glitch may have inadvertently exposed payment-related information of some ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

  • “What kind of person can charge another person, in this case a former President of the United States… with a Crime, when it is known by all that NO Crime has been committed,” the former US President Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Friday. Although he did not mention him by name, Trump claims this person, who he calls a “degenerate psychopath that truly hates the USA,” knows that “potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our Country.”

  • Transgender people will no longer be able to compete in female sports competitions, the World Athletics Council has ruled. From April on, any athlete who has been through male puberty will not be allowed to compete in women’s track and field events, regardless of their current hormonal levels. “The Council has agreed to exclude male or female transgender athletes who have been through male puberty from female world ranking competitions from March 31 this year,” said World Athletics president, Lord Sebastian Coe, at a press-conference on Thursday.

  • Shares of European banking giants plummeted on Friday, with Deutsche Bank and UBS Group dropping 13% and 6%, respectively, after a sharp spike in credit default swaps was recorded on Thursday night. Credit default swaps, a form of insurance for corporate bondholders against a company’s default, surged to 173 basis points late on Thursday from 142 basis points the previous day, marking the highest level since they were introduced in 2019. Major concerns among investors have been evoked by the emergency rescue of the embattled Credit Suisse by the Swiss government. Part of the deal included the write-off of $17 billion worth of Credit Suisse’s AT1 bonds. The move angered many debt-holders, who have been left empty-handed, and has revealed yet another banking-sector risk.

  • Since he first announced last Saturday that he would be arrested by New York City police the following Tuesday, millions of Trump-obsessed Americans have now waited nearly a week for the big day to arrive. But even before the big day arrived, the overproduction of elites had created an overproduction of “deep fakes,” made by A.I., of Trump being arrested. “As per sources on the ground,” tweeted deep faker, @MadMikeOfficial, “Trump has taken command of the NYPD and has become the undisputed warlord of Manhattan.” The people who have taken upon themselves the great burden of spying on and censoring their fellow citizens for wrongthink — the hall monitors within the Censorship Industrial Complex — have been warning for years that deep fakes like the Trump images above would result in “disinformation” campaigns and “influence operations” by “malign actors.” Funny, then, that it was one of the leading members of the Censorship Industrial Complex, Eliot Higgins of the creepy Bellingcat, who was the first to create and tweet out the Trump deep fakes. ~ Michael Shellenberger & Leighton Woodhouse

  • Members of the US House Energy and Commerce Committee have held a meeting to hear testimony from TikTok chief executive Shou Zi Chew, whom the lawmakers questioned about the platform’s data privacy practices and alleged ties to the Chinese government. During four-and-a-half hours of questioning, Chew told the panel that TikTok does not share information about US users with the Chinese government, described ongoing efforts to further protect US user data, and denied that the platform colludes with the Chinese Communist Party through China-based parent company ByteDance.

  • A distant spiral galaxy boasts bright streams of star-forming gas dripping from its central disk like tentacles of a jellyfish in a new Hubble Space Telescope photo. Located over 800 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Pegasus, JW100 is an example of a “jellyfish galaxy” — a type of galaxy that exhibits long tendrils illuminated by clumps of star formation, which appear to be streaming away from the galaxy’s main body, giving it a jellyfish-like appearance. These tendrils form through a process called ram pressure stripping, which occurs when galaxies encounter the diffuse gas that pervades galaxy clusters, according to a statement(opens in new tab) from the European Space Agency (ESA), which released the photo on Monday (March 20).
