  • Joe Biden has ordered the release of 50 million barrels of crude from the country’s emergency stockpile to battle rising gasoline prices. “Today, the President is announcing that the Department of Energy will make available releases of 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower prices for Americans and address the mismatch between demand exiting the [Covid-19] pandemic and supply,” the White House announced on its website on Tuesday. The release of the reserves was coordinated with major Asian energy consumers, including China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the UK, the announcement states.

  • Italy has fined US tech giants Amazon and Apple roughly $230 million, accusing the firms of anti-competitive cooperation in sales on Amazon’s Italian platform. The two companies came under fire for an agreement they struck back in 2018, which allegedly enabled only selected resellers to sell Apple products and Beats electronic accessories on Italy’s antitrust authority ruled that the firms acted in violation of EU laws and affected competition on prices. Amazon was fined $77.4 million and Apple received a $151.5 million fine. Both tech giants said they would appeal the decision.

  • People in Ontario have the opportunity to make click-and-collect orders of marijuana via the Uber Eats app after the food delivery service entered partnership with a legal cannabis retailer. “Consumers can place orders from Tokyo Smoke’s flower collection and unique accessories on the Uber Eats app, and then pick up their purchase at the respective Tokyo Smoke stores,” the companies said in a statement announcing the partnership, which is the first of its kind. They promise that orders will be ready within an hour of being placed. Any person making an order must confirm their legal age first. Tokyo Smoke, whose master franchisor in Ontario is Katz Group in partnership with brand owner Canopy Growth Corporation, has 56 stores in Ontario, including 13 in Toronto. Uber Eats and Tokyo Smoke underline that their partnership will contribute to the fight against the illegal sales of marijuana, which, according to official statistics, accounts for over 40% of all nonmedical cannabis sales in Canada.

  • In his first media interview following his acquittal last week, Kyle Rittenhouse told Fox’s Tucker Carlson that Joe Biden may have committed an act of libel, adding that he should have learned the facts of the case before weighing in. “Mr. President, if I could say one thing to you, I would urge you to go back and watch the trial, and understand the facts before you make a statement,” Rittenhouse said, referring to a video posted online by Biden’s team that used the teen’s image alongside the words “white supremacists.”

  • The presence of the USS Milius in the Taiwan Strait was creating security risks and undermining regional stability, the Chinese military said following the passage of the US missile destroyer through the contested waterway. The US Navy warship sailed through the 125km-wide strait on Tuesday in what the American military described as a “routine” mission to demonstrate their nation’s “commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

  • Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos has given a $100 million gift to the Obama Foundation, which will finance its global leadership programs and see the plaza at their lavish Chicago presidential center named after a civil rights leader. The foundation headed by former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle said on Monday that Bezos’ gift is the largest individual contribution they’ve received to date.

  • “Bringing a 40-foot container from Asia to the US 12 months ago was about $1,500. Today, you’re spending upwards of $30,000 and we’re certainly averaging close to $10,000,” according to grill maker Traeger CEO Jeremy Andrus.

  • In a new interview with the BBC‘s Science Focus magazine, an evolutionary palaeobiologist at the institution’s Department of Earth Sciences named Simon Conway Morris declared that researchers can “say with reasonable confidence” that human-like evolution has occurred in other locations around the universe. Arik Kershenbaum, a zoologist at the rarified British institution, wrote a whole book about the concept of alien evolution. “Because evolution is the explanatory mechanism for life everywhere,” Kershenbaum told Quanta magazine earlier this year, “then the principles that we uncover on Earth should be applicable in the rest of the universe.” And if the laws of evolution are as strong as Darwinists like Kershenbaum and Morris believe, that ups both our propensity for relating to and communicating with aliens — and, unfortunately, for warring with them as well. ~ Noor Al-Sibai

  • In early November, Israeli spyware company NSO Group, which is behind “Pegasus,” was sanctioned by the United States over its alleged involvement in activities that pose a threat to American national security. NSO Group appears to be on the verge of defaulting on half-a-billion dollars’ worth of debt, as estimated by credit agency Moody’s. The agency has also downgraded NSO Group by two levels to Caa2, which is eight levels below investment grade. The estimation comes shortly after the United States blacklisted the firm earlier in November, arguing that the company had been engaging in activities that threaten American national security.

  • Web hosting giant GoDaddy on Monday disclosed a data breach that resulted in the unauthorized access of data belonging to a total of 1.2 million active and inactive customers, making it the third security incident to come to light since 2018. In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the world’s largest domain registrar said that a malicious third-party managed to gain access to its Managed WordPress hosting environment on September 6 with the help of a compromised password, using it to obtain sensitive information pertaining to its customers. It’s not immediately clear if the compromised password was secured with two-factor authentication. The Arizona-based company claims over 20 million customers, with more than 82 million domain names registered using its services. GoDaddy revealed it discovered the break-in on November 17. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and the company said it’s “contacting all impacted customers directly with specific details.”

  • Ghislaine Maxwell’s three sisters and three brothers have filed a petition to the United Nations asking for her release from jail, after at least four failed bail applications, the New York Post reported. The authors of the petition expect the UN to call on the US government to release Maxwell pending trial and to initiate an independent investigation into her “arbitrary detention.”

  • Virginia Giuffre (née Roberts), an alleged victim of the late Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking ring, will not be testifying at the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, reported Vanity Fair. At least four accusers are set to testify against Maxwell, with three of them granted anonymity. However, Giuffre will purportedly not take to the stand in Maxwell’s trial. Giuffre, who lives in Australia with her husband and their three children, will hold off-the-record remote briefings for reporters during the trial, according to a source cited by the publication. The woman who has pursued criminal and civil actions against both Epstein and Maxwell, is the only accuser to have offered up a slew of names of influential men who allegedly participated in the billionaire’s sex trafficking ring. In depositions and in extensive media interviews, Virginia Giuffre claimed that Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell trafficked her to engage in intimate relations with Queen Elizabeth II’s son, Prince Andrew, US lawyer Alan Dershowitz, former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, former Democratic Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, financier Glenn Dubin, the late MIT computer scientist Marvin Minsky, and MC2 model agency cofounder Jean-Luc Brunel. All of the men mentioned have vehemently denied the allegations.

  • A group Greenland’s former “experiment children”, who were forcibly housed with Danish families as part of a social research project in the early 1950s now seek compensation from Copenhagen. A total of 22 Greenlandic children, aged four to nine, were sent to Denmark, where they were to learn Danish and be retrained as a kind of elite Greenlanders as part of a larger experiment. Upon return, they were to act as a kind of spearhead in the Danish colony administration’s development plan for the Greenlandic society, which was at the time seen as “backward”. After one to two years in Denmark, the children returned to Greenland. Still, however, they were not reunited with their respective families, but instead sent to orphanages, where they were only allowed to speak Danish. Today, only six of the “experiment children” are still alive.
