  • Mark Meckler, the new interim CEO of Parler, currently supports a Convention of States that could give George Soros and other interests the power to rewrite the Constitution. Meckler, who was appointed as interim CEO of Parler following the removal of founder John Matze, currently runs the Convention of States Project, a supposed “grassroots” organization pushing for a convention under Article V of the Constitution. The project describes itself as a “national effort to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress,” which initially sounds appealing. However, a report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities argued that such a restriction on an Article V convention would be impossible, with states unable to control what a convention could and could not discuss, and nobody else having clear constitutional control over the convention.

  • Big Tech Backflip: Facebook Drops Australian News Ban, Bows to Government Regulation. The capitulation came after Prime Minister Scott Morrison called Facebook “arrogant,” warning against “Big Tech companies who think they are bigger than governments and that the rules should not apply to them.” Discussions between Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg have now delivered a result in the government’s favor and stemmed the fierce public backlash against the media giant. “Mark Zuckerberg said to me today [restoring pages] will occur in coming days,” Frydenberg said.

  • Despite border tensions, China replaces US as India’s largest trading partner. The efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government to draw down India’s trade ties with China, amid a deadly border standoff have failed to meet their goal, as the world’s second-largest economy regained its position as New Delhi’s largest trading partner in 2020.

  • India: More than 100,000 farmers and farm workers gathered in India’s northern Punjab state on Sunday (Feb 21) in a show of strength against new farm laws, where union leaders called on supporters to amass outside the capital New Delhi on Feb 27. Tens of thousands of Indian growers have already been camped outside Delhi for nearly three months, demanding the repeal of the three reform laws that they say will hurt them and benefit large corporations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which introduced the laws last September, has offered to defer the laws but refused to abandon them, arguing that legislation will help farmers get better prices. Both sides have met for several rounds of negotiations but failed to make any headway, and farmers’ unions have vowed to carry on the protests until the laws are rolled back.

  • The first child immigration detainment facility under President Joe Biden opened this week, prompting Democrats who had attacked former President Donald Trump for maintaining similar facilities to go on the defensive. A former oil field worker camp in Carrizo Springs, Texas, it was briefly used as a detainment facility by the Trump administration in 2019 before being closed down, but is now back in operation to hold “up to 700 children,” with the Biden administration saying it was needed since capacity has been cut at other facilities due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Immigration activists were saddened to hear of the facility reopening, with lawyer Linda Brandmiller telling the Washington Post it was “unnecessary,”“costly,” and “absolutely against everything Biden promised he was going to do.”

  • Ten orangutans have been airlifted back to their natural habitat on Indonesia’s Borneo island, in the first release of the apes into the wild for a year due to the dangers of COVID-19 infection. The animals were flown by helicopter across the island’s dense jungle earlier this month to keep them away from days-long land and sea routes that could expose them to the coronavirus.
