- Ukraine said that Russia released 215 of its soldiers, including fighters who led the defense of Mariupol’s Azovstal steelworks. In exchange, Kyiv turned over 55 prisoners to Russia, including Viktor Medvedchuk, a former Ukrainian lawmaker and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the Ukrainian president’s chief of staff, the exchange of prisoners took place in several stages and in different locations. Briton Aiden Aslin, captured earlier this year and charged by a separatist-administered court in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, flew to the kingdom along with U.S. citizens Alexander Drueke and Andy Huynh, according to the Reuters news agency. The American pair, both from Alabama, were captured in June while fighting in eastern Ukraine.

- Mike Lindell, the My Pillow chief executive, is under federal investigation for identity theft and for conspiring to damage a protected computer connected to a suspected voting equipment security breach in Colorado. Attorneys for MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell have released the search warrant that FBI investigators used to seize the Trump ally’s cell phone, showing agents took the CEO and high-profile election denier’s phone as part of an investigation into whether Lindell and others may have violated three federal statutes through an alleged election security breach in Colorado.
- Fundraising groups tied to Republican Party leaders are sharply increasing spending on campaign ads to help the party win control of Congress in the November 8 general elections. But not Trump’s Save America, a PAC fundraising group that under U.S. election law can fund the Republican former president’s political allies and his frequent rallies but not any election campaign of his own.
- A bunker at a former Second World War RAF radar base in South-West England is to be converted into a luxury holiday retreat. The Mail Online reported that windowless bunker at Ringstead Bay in Dorset is currently almost hidden by overgrown vegetation. Dorset county council has grated London-based firm Lipton Plant Architects (LPA) planning permission to redevelop it as a holiday hideaway.
- Protesters in Tehran and several other Iranian cities torched police stations and vehicles as unrest triggered by the death of a woman detained by the Islamic Republic’s morality police intensified for a sixth day. The Iran’s president demanding U.S. guarantees to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the U.S. president vowing Tehran would never get an atomic bomb.

- Demonstrators took to the streets in Ecuador on Wednesday to protest the death of a woman the government says was killed by her police officer husband. Ecuadorians gathered outside police headquarters in Quito to protest the death of lawyer Maria Belen Bernal. She entered a police training school on Sept. 11, where her husband worked as an instructor, officials say, and police later found her body nearby. Her husband, German Caceres, who the attorney general’s office says is the main suspect in the killing, is on the run. “Her murder will not go unpunished and all those responsible will be brought to justice,” Ecuador’s President, Guillermo Lasso, wrote in a message on Twitter.
- For the first time in the century of its existence, Northern Ireland has more residents who identify as Catholic than those call themselves Protestants, a census has shown, according to results published on Thursday. When Northern Ireland was founded in 1921 as part of the United Kingdom, two-thirds of the population was Protestant, in strong contrast to the largely Catholic Irish state to the south. Some observers believe the shift in religious affiliation could boost support for the region to break with the UK, creating a united Ireland on the entire island of the same name. The landmark shift is likely to lead to more calls for a referendum on reuniting Northern Ireland with the Republic of Ireland. Such a reunification is permitted under the Good Friday Agreement if a majority in Northern Ireland is in favor.
- On the run from authorities after forcing a bank to release her family savings at gunpoint to treat her cancer-stricken sister, 28-year-old Lebanese interior designer Sali Hafiz insists she is not the criminal. “We are in the country of mafias. If you are not a wolf, the wolves will eat you,” she told Reuters. Hafiz held up a Beirut branch of BLOM Bank last week, taking by force some $13,000 from her sister’s account frozen by capital controls that were imposed overnight by commercial banks in 2019 but never made legal via legislation. Dramatic footage of the incident turned her into an instant folk hero in a country where hundreds of thousands of people are locked out of their savings.
- Mark Zuckerberg and his wife concealed the political nature of their donations ahead of the 2020 presidential election, “shuffling” them through “charitable” intermediaries. Mark Zuckerberg, his wife, and three voting rights groups have had legal complaints filed against them, alleging misconduct related to activities surrounding the 2020 presidential election, Fox Business has reported. Two complaints were filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) against the chief executive of Meta* Platforms, formerly known as Facebook*, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, by the Center for Renewing America (CRA) nonprofit organization. The CRA, headed by senior ex-Trump administration official Russ Vought, also filed a complaint against the groups Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR), and National Vote at Home Institute (NVAHI), according to the outlet. The complaints accuse Zuckerberg and the three groups of being involved in a scheme to inject nearly $500 million into the 2020 election in order to ensure that Democrat Joe Biden defeated his rival, Republican Donald Trump.

Roundel
Archaeologists are investigating a 7,000-year-old so-called roundel (known as ‘rondely’ in Czech), and monumental structure located in the Vinoř district on the outskirts of Prague, Czech Republic.
The circular structure, a so-called roundel, is 55 meters wide and appears to be older than famous ancient monuments such as Stonehenge. The ancient Neolithic structures’ function is still unknown, but scientists are hopeful that more research will clarify why the monumental structures were built and who and how they were used.
