- Another six classified documents were found this week by the US Department of Justice during a search of President Joe Biden’s family home conducted by a special counsel appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland, according to the president’s personal lawyer, Bob Bauer. Some materials were from Biden’s stint in the Senate, between 1973 and 2009. - Peru has “indefinitely” shut the tourist site of Machu Picchu, citing ongoing anti-government unrest gripping the country. The decision was announced by the country’s culture ministry on Saturday. “The closure of the Inca trails network and the Machu Picchu citadel has been ordered due to the social situation and to preserve the safety of visitors,” the ministry said in a statement. - State legislators have called on New York City’s Madison Square Garden arena to stop weaponizing facial recognition technology against patrons or risk losing its lucrative $43 million tax abatement. In a letter published last week, they demanded the venue’s owner MSG Entertainment “immediately stop the use of this inappropriate technology on fans.” “MSG Entertainment is using facial recognition systems to automate discrimination, violate individuals’ privacy, and chill any criticism of the company,” the letter reads. “It sets a dangerous precedent to permit MSG Entertainment to maintain such power.” MSG, which also operates Radio City Music Hall, must commit to destroying patrons’ data as soon as it is no longer needed. If MSG does not comply, it risks losing not only the $43 million tax abatement, but a special city permit (due to expire this year) allowing Madison Square Garden to seat more than the normal limit of 2,500 people, as well as multiple liquor licenses.

Developing the new technology and adapting it to the specific needs took the group of researchers from Imperial College and University College London around 10 years. In two separate studies, the scientists ran trials with the motion sensor suits on patients suffering from Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). However, according to the study, the technology could be applied to track patients recovering from other diseases affecting movement as well.
