  • A day after hundreds of protesters were arrested for breaching CVD restrictions, PM Scott Morrison has reiterated that Australia will keep battling the virus with lockdowns until the majority of citizens are fully vaccinated. “You can’t live with lockdowns forever and at some point, you need to make that gear change and that is done at 70%,” Morrison stated in an interview with ABC on Sunday.

  • New South Wales cabinet minister Victor Dominello has warned Australians to look after their health after being diagnosed with Bell’s palsy. The Digital and Customer Service Minister’s “droopy eye” caught the attention of some viewers of the daily NSW CVD press conference on Wednesday. The Member for Ryde said he felt a pain in his skull, behind his right ear, about 48 hours earlier, before waking up on Wednesday with pins and needles on the right side of his tongue. [Coincidences?] Health Canada says 311 patients in Canada reported a case of Bell’s Palsy after getting a CVD shot though that does not specifically mean the condition was caused by the experimental serum.

  • A Belgian woman has ended up banned from visiting a chimpanzee at Antwerp Zoo after the keepers deemed the two were spending way too much time together. The woman claimed she was having an “affair” with the animal. Over the past four years, Timmermans paid weekly visits to the zoo, seeking contact with one particular animal – a 38-year-old chimpanzee called Chita. The two then interacted through the enclosure’s glass, waving and blowing kisses at each other. The woman was devastated by the ban, telling local media in a tearful interview that both she and the animal would suffer from the forced break-up. “I love that animal and he loves me. I haven’t got anything else. Why do they want to take that away?” she said.

  • The Arts Council of Wales spent £51,000 on a report that found its own Welsh language policies “systemically racist.” By asking workers to know the language, the council upholds a “white supremacist ideology,” the report claimed. The Arts Council of Wales tests its employees on their Welsh language skills every year, while National Museums Wales assesses whether Welsh language skills are “essential” for particular roles.

  • Last Saturday, nearly 215,000 opponents of the health passes took part in demonstrations held across France. In July, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a series of new restrictions, including a special health pass. This was the sixth Saturday in a row that protests against the new restrictions were organized in various cities in France, including Paris.

  • The Australian government has rejected the visa applications of more than 100 Afghans who helped guard the Australian Embassy in Kabul, ABC News reported on Sunday, citing the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. “Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs has considered your application. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for certification under the visa policy [the At Risk Afghan Employees Visa Scheme]”, the rejection letter read.

  • Spain’s national police arrested a Swiss banker on an international arrest warrant. The 60-year-old is wanted by U.S. officials in connection with helping U.S. tax evadors hide more than $65 million in offshore accounts between 2004 and 2014. The banker in question, Peter Rueegg, is accused of enabling three U.S. clients to hide their assets in order to evade tax. Prosecutors accuse Rueegg and his accomplices of earning large commissions for transferring funds first to a series of sham accounts in Hong Kong before making the funds available to the clients via accounts in Singapore controlled by Ihag.

  • Construction works on the long-anticipated cross-border railway bridge linking Russia and China across the Amur River have been completed, with the Russian and Chinese sections of the tracks now connected. Installation of the last section of rails was completed, China’s Central Television reports. The 2,209-meter (1.4 mile) structure links Russia’s Far East with China’s northernmost Heilongjiang province. The railway bridge is expected to bring bilateral trade between Russia and China to new highs.
