- A new study has identified seven spider species previously unknown to science in the depths of Israeli caves, with the surprise finding that they are evolutionarily closer to arachnids found in southern Europe than to their neighbors at cave entrances in Israel. The peer-reviewed research, published in the Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution journal, was conducted by scientists from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the University of Madison-Wisconsin. The study “has extensive scientific implications for uncovering the evolution of speciation in caves and the historical, geographic and climatic processes that occurred in Israel,” the Hebrew University said in a statement.
- [Burned Brains]Influencer refuses to talk to his family because they aren’t ‘famous’. Larz, 23, from California, US, has cut off all ties with his family after amassing over 400,000 followers and hanging out with celebrities. He first hit the headlines in 2020 after he licked a toilet bowl as part of a ‘coronavirus challenge’, The video of the same went viral, which thrust him into the limelight. The influencer then claimed to have contracted the virus – although his friend later revealed the footage he posted from the hospital was actually old and he had lied about falling ill with COVID. Appearing on the Australian radio programme the Kyle and Jackie O Show, he said he found it “embarrassing” that people would even think he still speaks to his family. When asked by presenter Jackie O’ Henderson if he no longer speaks to his family, he said: “Of course not. I stopped talking to them so long ago, it’s actually embarrassing that people would think I still talk to them. “
- In his State of the Union address earlier this month, US President Joe Biden referenced Europe several times, and the underlying message was always the same: Captain America has swooped in to save his Western allies from a horrible fate. “Our nation is working for more freedom, more dignity, and more peace, not just in Europe, but everywhere,” Biden said. Woah, slow your roll there, big guy. The world can only handle so much “freedom” after recent debacles in Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and elsewhere. Europe was actually a pretty chill place as far as conflicts went, right up until Washington decided that it wanted to set up a flophouse for itself in Ukraine to better keep tabs on Russia, then managing to convince its European NATO allies to come help it move in and provide some weapons as housewarming gifts. The result for Ukraine? “A murderous assault evoking images of the death and destruction Europe suffered in World War II,” Biden described, conveniently ignoring the fact that this time around, it was Washington’s NATO allies that trained the Nazis. “Canada’s Joint Task Force Ukraine even produced a briefing on the Azov Battalion, acknowledging its links to Nazi ideology,” according to the Ottawa Citizen. ~ Rachel Marsden
- A bill was initially introduced and pushed through by Spain’s Social Rights Minister Ione Belarra, who has promoted it as seeking to protect the well-being of animals, regardless of whether they are pets or wild animals. The amendment seeks to introduce several changes to the Spanish Penal Code, which, as of 2015, has treated bestiality as a form of abuse, and suggested a three-month to one-year prison sentence for causing “injuries that seriously impair” the health of animals or for “subjecting them to sexual exploitation.” If the Penal Code reform is approved, the previous article would be deleted and replaced by a new one titled “crimes against animals.” Belarra’s Animal Welfare bill would also introduce prison sentences and hefty fines of up to €50,000 ($53,400) for killing a rat at home, and a penalty of up to €200,000 ($213,800) for owners of female dogs that become pregnant if they are not registered as breeders. The Animal Welfare Law would also ban the sale of puppies and kittens in pet stores, the keeping of dogs and cats in confined spaces, and would prohibit keeping certain animals as pets altogether. These include spiders, birds not native to Spain such as parakeets and lovebirds, hedgehogs, turtles, lizards, snakes and chameleons. The list of permitted animals also doesn’t yet include rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, mice and hamsters. Notably, the bill does not make any mention of bullfighting, which the Spanish government believes should be addressed separately as a cornerstone of Spanish culture.
- Former CNN star Chris Cuomo, who now works for NewsNation network, has visited an academy in Ukraine where he says teens are being prepared to go to the front and fight Russian forces. The journalist spoke to one of the trainees, said to be 16 or 17, asking him if he was prepared to use his newly acquired skills on the battlefield. “Definitely, I’m ready for that… but it’s scary,” the boy replied.
- Instagram and Facebook users will soon be required to pay to have their accounts verified, after parent company Meta joined Twitter as the latest tech giant to adopt a subscription model amid cost-cutting measures across the industry. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the ‘Meta Verified’ service on Sunday, which he said would “increase authenticity and security” throughout its social networks. He added that the move will first be implemented in Australia and New Zealand this week. The new model is “a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post. He revealed that it will cost $11.99 per month on the web and $14.99 per month on iOS.
- A “genuine” transgender woman serving a life sentence in Cornton Vale prison in Scotland has said she would not be safe if she was transferred to a male prison. The concerns arose after a media furore over Isla Bryson, who was briefly incarcerated at the all-female facility for having raped two women before transitioning. “The public’s view of trans people generally has now been damaged, but not by the behavior of any trans person – by someone probably trying to exploit the system,” Sophie Eastwood told the Daily Record on Monday. “As a result, genuine trans prisoners are now less safe than we were.” Eastwood, 38, was sentenced to life for strangling to death a cellmate in 2004. She completed her 15-year minimum term in 2019. At the time of the murder, she went by the name Daniel and was serving a term for dangerous driving. She transitioned and moved to Cornton Vale in 2017.
- An ancient flush toilet that was unearthed by Chinese archeologists this past summer is most likely one of the oldest ever discovered, local media reported. The broken parts of the artefact, estimated to be between 2,200 and 2,400 years old, were discovered by researchers from the Institute of Archaeology at the China Academy of Social Sciences as they excavated at the Yueyang archaeological site in the northwestern province of Shaanxi. The parts, which included a toilet bowl and a pipe, date back to the so-called Warring States Period at the beginning of the Han Dynasty. The Chinese Institute of Archaeology’s researcher Liu Rui, who was part of the excavation team, told a Chinese media outlet that the artefact is “the first and only flush toilet to be ever unearthed in China.” According to him, everybody at the site was surprised about the discovery, and they “all burst into laughter” when they saw it.

“Fallen Angels”
Here’s a Christian astronomer and physicist who understands there are both Angels of Light and “Fallen Angels”, and that they’re all inter-dimensional extraterrestrials. His faith isn’t threatened by the idea of life outside of Earth but strengthened by it. “These creatures differ from humans in that they are not constrained by either the known laws of physics or the known space-time dimensions.” — Dr. Hugh Ross
