  • The Financial Times (FT) quoted on Saturday several sources saying that “the Chinese military launched a rocket that carried a hypersonic glide vehicle” in August and judged it to be a “nuclear-capable hypersonic missile”. According to the FT article, the missile “flew through low-orbit space” and could help China “negate” US missile defence systems which are designed to target the fixed parabolic trajectory of a ballistic missile. The progress of the Chinese military has “caught US intelligence by surprise,” the report said.

  • Warsaw deployed nearly 6,000 Polish soldiers to guard the border with Belarus amid the ongoing migration crisis, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Tuesday, adding that they assist the border guards with preventing any illegal crossings. The Polish border guard reported 612 such attempts at the border with Belarus over the past day. This month, some 10,000 attempts to illegally cross the border were detected, following 20,000 cases in September. In recent months, Poland along with neighbouring Latvia and Lithuania have reported an influx of migrants trying to cross into the European Union from Belarus and accused Minsk of facilitating illegal migration to destabilize the bloc in retaliation for sweeping sanctions. Minsk rejected the claims, maintaining that it has been unable to curb the migration crisis due to Western sanctions.

  • Pakistan’s Navy claimed to have spotted an “Indian Navy submarine” in the Arabian Sea on 16 October. In a press statement on Tuesday, the Navy claimed that its long-range maritime patrol aircraft had “detected and blocked” the vessel “from entering Pakistani waters”. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani Armed Forces, said the Navy had showed “unremitting vigilance and professional competence”. The incident was reported by the Pakistan Navy amid a strict ceasefire at the border that has been followed by the two South Asian rivals since February this year.

  • The ambassadors of 10 countries, who called for the release of human rights defender Osman Kavala, were summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry and reminded of the need to observe the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. “It was conveyed to the Ambassadors / charge d’affaires of these countries that the impertinent statement via social media regarding a legal proceeding conducted by independent judiciary was unacceptable, that the statement attempting to politicize judicial proceedings and put pressure on Turkish judiciary was rejected, and that the statement was also against the rule of law, democracy and independence of the judiciary, as allegedly defended by the Ambassadors,” the ministry said. In international practice, the perceived breach of this convention can lead to the expulsion of foreign diplomats from their host country.

  • On Tuesday, the Japanese Defence Ministry underlined that naval vessels from Russia and China had passed through the Tsugaru Strait in full compliance with international norms. Chinese and Russian warships have jointly sailed through the Tsugaru Strait, in a mission that included about ten naval vessels from both countries, according to Tokyo. “The government is closely watching Chinese and Russian naval vessels’ activities around Japan like this one with high interest. We will continue to do our utmost in our surveillance activity in waters and airspace around Japan”, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihiko Isozaki told reporters on Tuesday.

  • Germany’s permanent representation to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has rejected all accusations of Russia in its note related to the case of opposition figure Alexey Navalny. “Germany strongly rejects the completely unfounded allegations made by the Russian Federation. It also strongly rejects the attempts to discredit other States parties as well as to question the impartiality and professionalism of the Technical Secretariat”, Germany’s mission said in a statement. The United States and 44 other countries have sent to Russia through the OPCW a list of questions about the incident with Navalny. Moscow sent a counter request addressed to Germany, France, Sweden and the technical secretariat of the organisation. Moscow said that Berlin hindered the official probe regarding the Navalny case, as Germany refused to cooperate with Russian investigators. The UK also joined the suit, slamming 45 countries’ questions related to the case.

  • A Google Maps user has come across an image that appeared to show a “tiny dinosaur” on the site. The user was searching for a place on the site when he came across this discovery in the South American country Chile, a report by the UK-based website Daily Star suggests. “I found whatever this is in a salt plain in Chile”, the user posted on Reddit.

  • Many such interesting discoveries have been made by Google Maps users on the site. In another incident, a hungry user discovered a fast-food frаnchise, Burger King, on a mysterious uninhаbited islаnd off the coаst of Omаn on Google Mаps.

  • One of the subdomains of former US President Donald Trump’s website was defaced by a hacker or hacker group, called RootAyyildiz, claiming responsibility. The attackers posted an excerpt from the Surah Al-Hashr from the Quran on the defaced website, as well as a video of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The hacker changed the “action” subdomain of the ex-POTUS’ website, where Trump posted calls for his followers to sign petitions or urged them to ask his campaign questions. Right now, this part of Trump’s website is down and redirects to the main page. However, the site’s archive on the website Wayback Machine suggests that it has been up and down throughout most of September and October.

  • Facebook has been in hot water in recent weeks, after former employee Frances Haugen blew the whistle and lambasted the company for not doing enough to tackle harmful content and putting profit above the wellbeing of its users. A series of reports were simultaneously published in the media, revealing the social media giant’s allegedly shady policies. Among other purported misdemeanors, the company was accused of knowing about the damage inflicted on the mental health of teenage girls by its Instagram platform and of allowing high-profile users to violate Facebook’s rules without consequences.

  • Last week, against the happy backdrop of William Shatner’s Captain Kirk-ian voyage to the stars with Jeff Bezos and Amazon’s Blue Origin tourism offering, Prince William splashed down with criticism of Bezos, Sir Richard Branson and Elon Musk’s separate commercial space programs. William said in multiple reports: “We need some of the world’s greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live. I think that ultimately is what sold it for me – that really is quite crucial to be focusing on this [planet] rather than giving up and heading out into space to try and think of solutions for the future.”

  • The Biden administration has advised the US Supreme Court that Abu Zubaydah, a Palestinian man who has been in US custody for nearly 20 years, can provide limited testimony for use in a Polish criminal investigation into his torture at a CIA “black site” in that country. Acting Solicitor General Brian Fletcher has stated that Zubaydah’s testimony will be subject to US national security review, and while he would be permitted to describe his treatment while in CIA custody, “information that could prejudice the security interests” of Washington could be redacted. The report is classified today, it notes that the CIA frequently had trouble distinguishing “detainees who had information but were successfully resisting interrogation from those who did not actually have the information,” and at least 26 individuals had been wrongfully held by the agency.

  • Sophie Zhang, a former data scientist at Facebook, who claims she was fired after highlighting the tech giant’s failure to tackle election interference across the globe, has just given evidence to the Draft Online Safety Bill Committee in the UK’s Parliament. Upon leaving Facebook in September 2020, she wrote “I’ve … found multiple blatant attempts by foreign national governments to abuse our platform on vast scales to mislead their own citizenry and caused international news on multiple occasions.” So you can imagine the excitement amongst those politicians who want to see the regulation of social media.

  • Satanic or satire? US school preaches ‘cannibalism,’ yet concerned parents are the ones branded as ‘domestic terrorists’. As further evidence that the US school system has lost the plot, students in Georgia were instructed to consider ‘eating babies’ as a way of solving world hunger. Rhonda Thomas, founder and president of Truth in Education, broke down the details of the class assignment in a shocking interview with The New American. “Since the child has passed we don’t need to take up any more land for cemeteries so we slap [the babies] on the grill and cook their flesh and make delicious hamburgers…For mass production, we would encourage the US government to create a business negotiation with China about trying to reduce their population by donating children to our government,” the instruction stated. Last month, Stacy Langton, a parent of children in the Fairfax, Virginia School District, brought the subject to a head as she publicly addressed the local school board in an epic confrontation that quickly went viral. Langton came armed for the meeting in the form of two books available at her child’s school library, ‘Lawn Boy’ and ‘Queer Gender.’ These novels, as Langton explained, contain scenes of “pedophilia, sex between men and boys…” where in one instance “a fourth-grade boy [is] performing oral sex on an adult male…” And to think the cultural warriors are cancelling Dr. Seuss, Gone with the Wind and Huckleberry Finn. To turn reality on its head in clear, Luciferian, style to the point where people are no longer capable of determining right from wrong, moral from immoral, and decent from indecent. “Our schools are targeting our children,” is how Thomas summarized the situation now prevailing in communities across the country. “This goes back to… social-emotional learning. This is shocking their value system, shocking their emotions to be able to break them down and make this normal.” ~ Robert Bridge

  • Despite the Covid pandemic, the NHS is reportedly wasting as much as £568 million yearly on habit-forming drugs like painkillers and sleeping pills that the majority of patients do not need, leading to dangerous addictions. Doctors in England are unnecessarily pushing dependency-causing opioids, antidepressants and other pills, according to a new study by the Council for Evidence-based Psychiatry (CEP). Researchers found that three in four prescriptions were totally unnecessary in some cases. The study, published on Tuesday in the journal Addictive Behaviours, revealed that, for many patients, their symptoms were not severe enough to warrant such medication.

A Brazilian Navy vessel used for training purposes became stuck after drifting into a pedestrian bridge in the Ecuadorian port of Guayaquil due to the strong current of the Guayas River. Despite all its efforts (as well as help from a tugboat), the “White Swan” collided with the bridge and became stuck and was unable to break free by itself.
