  • The report compiled by the JASON advisory group in November 2018 said that the sounds reported in eight of the original 21 incidents of ‘Havana Syndrome’ were “most likely” caused by crickets, and that it was “highly unlikely” the reported symptoms were caused by microwaves or ultrasound beams. While “the suffering reported by the affected individuals is real,” the group concluded “psychogenic effects may serve to explain important components of the reported injuries.” The NAS panel concluded microwaves were the “most plausible” cause of the symptoms, which purportedly include headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, hearing and vision impairment, nosebleeds, vertigo and memory loss, among others. According to JASON, however, “No plausible single source of energy (neither radio/microwaves nor sonic) can produce both the recorded audio/video signals and the reported medical effects.” The recorded noise was either mechanical or biological in origin, rather than electronic, and the “most likely” source was Anurogryllis celerinictus, the Indies short-tailed cricket.”

  • US Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) has excoriated Facebook for hiding its knowledge of the harmfulness of its products – just as cigarette makers did decades ago – and choosing “growth over children’s mental health.” “Facebook has taken Big Tobacco’s playbook,” Blumenthal said at a Senate hearing on Thursday regarding the mental health impact of Facebook and Instagram. “It has hidden its own research on addiction and the toxic effects of its products. It has attempted to deceive the public and us in Congress about what it knows”.

  • Domenico Lucano, the former mayor of the town of Riace, located in Italy’s southern region of Calabria, was sentenced to 13 years and two months in jail on Thursday. The sentence turned out to be nearly twice the seven years and 11 months requested by prosecutors. The ex-mayor was also ordered to return €500,000 in funding received from the Italian government and the EU. According to the magistrates, the ex-mayor flouted the public tender process, awarding waste collection contracts to two companies set up specifically to help migrants get jobs. Speaking to reporters after the trial, the ex-mayor expressed shock over the ruling, suggesting the sentence could be revenge for his fight against the mafia during his time in office.

  • London – At the beginning of March this year, during the third national lockdown, Sarah Everard was returning from visiting a friend, when Wayne Couzens, a serving Metropolitan policeman who had been on duty that day approached her using the official documentation and tools that legitimise police stop and searches. Witnesses saw Sarah being handcuffed and compliantly getting into the back of the black hire car being driven by Couzens. The man later raped and murdered Sarah Everard, buried her body and allowed her loved ones to suffer for over a week, not knowing where or how she was until her body was found. Former police officer Wayne Couzens will die in prison after being sentenced to a rare whole-life term.

  • The Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis prioritized his state’s sizable population of elderly and retirees for vaccination while allowing the rest of his citizens to go about their business unmasked and unvaccinated if they so wished. The governor has also promised to fine any federal agency attempting to enforce the Biden administration’s vaccine mandates in his state.

  • Kate Wilson began a relationship with Mark Stone after they met in 2003 and had a “whirlwind romance” with him until they went their separate ways in 2005. Half a decade later, however, she found out that her former lover was actually a married police officer called Mark Kennedy, who had been instructed to snoop on activists under the Met’s National Public Order Intelligence Unit (NPOIU). The environmental activist who was duped into an almost two-year relationship with an undercover cop has won a landmark case against the London Metropolitan Police for several breaches of her human rights and privacy.

  • Nirmaladevi Singh, a 55-year-old woman, fended off an attack by a leopard that crept up on her outside her home Wednesday evening in the Aarey Colony suburb of Mumbai, India, with nothing but just a walking stick. The woman striking the wild cat multiple times before crying out for help.

  • The government in Ottawa reportedly didn’t authorise a covert propaganda operation against its own citizens, according to a plan designed by Canada’s military leadership. The Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) used the COVID-19 pandemic to test its propaganda techniques – similar to those used during the Afghanistan war – on its own citizens, the daily newspaper Ottawa Citizen reported, citing documents obtained through the Access to Information law. According to the newspaper, the plan was hatched last year by the CJOC, which at the time was headed by Lt-Gen Mike Rouleau. The operation called for “shaping” and “exploiting” information during the health crisis to make the government’s messages about the pandemic more effective and prevent any civil disobedience from Canadians.
