  • [Always “rules for thee but not for me”] Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ‘has led a 400-strong parade of private jets into COP26,’ which includes Prince Albert of Monaco, tons of other royals, and dozens of “green” CEOs – creating a giant traffic jam which required empty planes to fly 30 miles away to ‘nearby’ Prestwick to find parking. On Sunday, MailOnline observed at least 52 private jets landing at Glasgow – while estimates put the total number flying in for the conference at 400. Conservative predictions suggest the fleet of private jets arriving for COP26 will blast out 13,000tonnes of carbon dioxide in total – equivalent to the amount consumed by more than 1,600 Britons in a year. Prince Charles was among those travelling by non-commercial plane from the G20 in Rome. Flight records suggest the plane was an MOD jet.

  • Grocery store in California claims ‘out of control’ shoplifting as Walgreens closes more than a dozen stores over theft. A San Francisco grocery store that was once open 24 hours is now limiting its hours due to “out of control” shoplifting, the latest example of businesses closing or limiting hours due to rampant petty crime in the blue city.

  • American Airlines passengers suffer frightful Halloween weekend with 1,700 flights canceled since Friday amid staffing woes. The largest US air carrier canceled an additional 841 flights on Sunday following more than 920 nixed trips the previous two days as [weather-related] disruptions exacerbated staffing struggles brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. Sunday’s cancellations equated to about 30% of American Airlines’ scheduled flights for the day. A further 269 flights were delayed as of around midafternoon, following 435 such scheduling breakdowns on Saturday. [We All Know Why]

  • If Assange dies in UK prison it would mean he’d been ‘tortured to death,’ UN special rapporteur on torture. If he should die in prison he’s effectively been tortured to death. That’s the reality of it, and I’m not exaggerating.” – WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange isn’t mentally ill and his psychological problems are solely the result of the abuse he suffers in isolation, [is He Already Dead? ~ Soft Disclosure]

  • Bad poll numbers continue to plague President Joe Biden as the latest survey shows a majority, including almost half of Democrats, believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. The NBC Clown News poll, released Sunday and conducted among 1,000 adults in the US, represents only the latest disappointing poll numbers for Biden. His approval has been steadily slipping in most surveys, including those conducted by NBC, with the latest job approval rating standing at 42%, a dip from 49% in August and 53% in April.

  • Our postcard from Siberia. Statistics show that in 2020, Russia was 3.2C degrees warmer than the average in the three decades to 1990. Winter temperatures are milder than ever, with air warming up to 5C above the norm. The number of forest fires have increased four-fold, while storms and hurricanes are ten times more likely. Here are eight big ways that Siberia is changing:
    1) Bubbling Methane – Methane is being released in a way not seen just a generation ago due to the rapid thawing of permafrost, which had sealed the gas for tens of thousands of years – until now.
    2) The Yamal Craters – Huge explosions in the past decade or so have caused the formation of at least 20 giant craters in and near the Yamal peninsula in northern Siberia. By summer 2021 scientists have identified some 7,185 bulging Arctic mounds, potentially at risk of erupting. Some of these rapidly-developing potentially explosive bulging hillocks on the Yamal and Gydan peninsulas are close to settlements and gas fields vital for energy supplies in Europe.
    3) Wonky Railways, Twisted Roads, Collapsing Buildings – Reports have warned of a dramatic weakening of the ‘bearing capacity’ of the ground inn, for example, Russia’s diamond capital Yakutsk and nickel mining hub Norilsk, both built on permafrost. Once usable railway lines built in the Stalin era in far-flung Siberian locations like TransBaikal are now wonky and twisted due to the ground moving because of permafrost thaw. Bridges, too, have collapsed.
    4) The Mouth Of Hell Is Opening Wider – A new satellite image shows the widening of the Batagai Depression, a ‘megaslump’, nicknamed by the local residents as the Mouth of Hell. The tadpole-shaped giant hole was measured several years ago at 100 metres (330ft) deep and around 1,000 metres (3,300ft) in length, with a width of 800 metres (2,650ft).
    5) The Unlocking Of Zombie Diseases – The thawing of permafrost has given scientists access to an untold treasure trove of not merely bones but the flesh and fur, the cells and even blood, of the past. Scientists are working to bring some of these species back to life, yet there is another side to the reappearance of these lost animals. In the last five years, born-again anthrax in the Yamal peninsula has been released and killed both humans and reindeer. Hundreds of Russian chemical and bio-warfare troops were deployed to destroy the infected reindeer remains on Yamal.
    6) Wildfires Burning All Year, Peat Fires Active Even In Minus 60c Cold – The phenomenon of ‘smoking snow’ in the Tomponsky district of Yakutia highlights the new normal. A video shows the wafts of smoke rising from the zombie fire some 400 km (250 miles) north-east of the republic’s capital Yakutsk, the world’s coldest city.
    7) Floods… And Droughts – Siberia can experience floods and droughts at the same time, a weather rollercoaster of lashing rains but also lengthy parched periods without precipitation. On the same day across the eight time zones from the Urals to the Pacific, weather and news reports may be drawing attention to record heat waves, burst rivers, dry spells, unseasonal snow and tornadoes.
    8) Northern Sea Route – There was an epic sight last year of the giant sailing ship STS Sedov sailing across the Arctic Ocean from Asia to Europe. The crew encountered almost no significant ice floes across thousands of nautical miles. The four-masted German-made steel barque’s journey shows that the Northern Sea Route now viably connects the Pacific and Atlantic. How different from 142 years earlier.

  • The Virginia school board at the center of a row over its gender-affirmation policies and alleged critical race theory (CRT) curriculum has been accused by a parent of teaching primary schoolers that white people are “born evil.” At a Loudoun County School Board meeting last week, a mother revealed that she had pulled her children from the county’s public school system after her six-year-old daughter asked her last year if she was “born evil because she was a white person.” The child had apparently learned this in a history lesson taught at her former school.

  • Shares in Barclays dropped 2.7% in early deals on Monday as investors reacted to news that the bank’s chief executive Jes Staley was resigning over a probe by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) into his links to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. “In view of those conclusions, and Mr. Staley’s intention to contest them, the Board and Mr. Staley have agreed that he will step down from his role as Group Chief Executive and as a director of Barclays.” The bank said the investigation did not reveal any proof that Staley “saw, or was aware of” any of the disgraced tycoon’s alleged crimes. Barclays refrained from further comment on the preliminary conclusions, acknowledging that the “regulatory process still has to run its full course”.

  • The word vax has been chosen as Word of Year in 2021, after the frequency of its usage increased 72 times since the beginning of the year, compared to the same time in 2020, Oxford Languages said on Monday. According to the report, there has been a 34-fold increase in the usage of the word vaccinate and an 18-fold increase in the usage of vaccination.

  • According to Press Secretary Jen Psaki, the White House communications team “a lot of times” instructs the president not to take questions, “but he’s going to do what he wants to do because he’s the president of the United States”. Joe Biden, who is frequently criticised for limited media access and being overly scripted, yet again appeared to rely on a cheat sheet of “pre-approved’ reporters at his Sunday press conference on the heels of the G20 summit in Rome. The US President, who had conversed with various world leaders on climate change goals ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November, said: “And now I’m happy to take some questions. And I’m told I should start with AP, Zeke Miller.” This is hardly the first time when Biden appears to rely on a “pre-ordained” list of correspondents to draw from when facing the press, with the seemingly preferred order singling out The Associated Press, The Washington Post, NBC News, Reuters and Bloomberg News.

  • A British tourist was denied entry to Spain in a post-Brexit immigration rules blunder, leaving here feeling “frustrated”. A British woman named Linda has suggested to the media that her passport was missing an “exit day stamp”, which is why she couldn’t enter Spain travelling from Gibraltar. Customs explained to her that during her previous trip to the country she didn’t get “stamped” as she left Spain. A lack of an exit stamp meant that Linda has stayed in Spain since June, which exceeds the maximum amount of time permitted in the region after Brexit.

  • Thailand will allow fully vaccinated tourists from 63 low-risk countries to enter the country without quarantine from Monday, the media reported. The original list included 46 low-risk countries exempt from quarantine: Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bhutan, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

  • BLC1 – Potential evidence of extraterrestrial radio signals from Proxima Centauri, the closest star to Earth, were likely just interference from human technology, researchers say. The mysterious signals were first detected in 2020 by the Breakthrough Listen project, which hunts for evidence of alien “technosignatures” — radio waves and other evidence of extraterrestrial technology. Using the Parkes Telescope in Australia, one of the largest telescopes in the Southern Hemisphere, since 2016 the scientists have detected more than 4.1 million “hits,” or frequency ranges that had signs of potentially significant radio signals. However, upon subsequent analysis, the vast majority of such hits usually turned out to be emissions from human technology here at Earth.

  • Tesla Hunger Games: $6BN to eradicate it? Prove it says Musk to UN. Elon Musk has thrown down the gauntlet to UN World Food Programme (WFP) director David Beasley who appealed to the Tesla CEO, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, to “step up now, on a one-time basis” to end global starvation. Musk insisted if Beasley “can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6BN will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it.” According to the WFP, that sum – which is less than Musk made in a single day on 29 Oct – would keep 42MN people from dying. Pressure on the UN [The Wrong People] now to prove its money isn’t wasted?
