  • Rishi Sunak’s tobacco and vapes bill aims to create the UK’s first smoke-free generation, in a landmark public health intervention. The tobacco and vapes bill ensures anyone turning 15 from 2024, or younger, will be banned from buying cigarettes, and aims to make vapes less appealing to children. The legislation does not ban smoking outright, as anyone who can legally buy tobacco now will still be able to do so if the bill becomes law. It will make it illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone born after 1 January 2009. The plan was first reported by the Guardian, and announced by the prime minister in his speech to the Conservative party conference last year.

  • A crowd in Canada was on Wednesday treated to the sight of Johnson, a former Conservative prime minister, railing against his Conservative successor Rishi Sunak’s proposals to ban anyone born after 2008 from ever purchasing tobacco. A vote is expected in the House of Commons in the coming weeks. “The party of Winston Churchill wants to ban [cigars]?” complained Johnson, speaking on stage at a conference in Ottawa. “Donnez-moi un break, as they say in Quebec. It’s just mad.”

  • The main road connecting Dubai to the capital, Abu Dhabi, was gridlocked due to flooding. Dubai’s metro and mall both flooded, and cars were seen floating down roads in many parts of the country. The storms hit other parts of the Middle East, with reports at least 18 dead in Oman due to flooding. The state-run WAM news agency called the rain “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.” That’s before the discovery of crude oil in this energy-rich nation then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States. • Last week Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) wrote in a Tuesday op-ed that officials from 15 federal agencies “knew in 2018 that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was trying to create a coronavirus like COVID-19.”
These officials knew that the Chinese lab was proposing to create a COVID 19-like virus and not one of these officials revealed this scheme to the public. In fact, 15 agencies with knowledge of this project have continuously refused to release any information concerning this alarming and dangerous research. Government officials representing at least 15 federal agencies were briefed on a project proposed by Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan Institute of Virology. – Rand Paul
Paul was referring to the DEFUSE project, which was revealed after DRASTIC Research uncovered documents showing that DARPA had been presented with a proposal by EcoHealth Alliance to perform gain-of-function research on bat coronavirus.

  • Remove the threat of a Russian invasion, and the real argument for European rearmament is almost the diametrical opposite: that it is necessary to make peace with Russia. For only a Europe confident of its ability to defend itself can break the circle – not only vicious but increasingly absurd – by which it is desperately afraid that the US will cease to guarantee its security, and therefore supports US policies that gravely damage its security. It is also, of course, obvious from recent comments by Donald Trump and his supporters that US military commitment to Europe cannot, in fact, be guaranteed in the long term. If European countries were confident in their ability to defend themselves without the US, they – or at least the French and Germans – could have summoned up the will to block the US push for Nato expansion, and made a real effort to reach compromise with Russia over Ukraine. This self-confidence would also allow Europe to extricate itself from embroilment in the growing confrontation between the US and China. ~ Anatol Lieven

  • A woman decided to take a corpse to a bank with the aim of being able to take out a loan, in Brazil. The event was recorded on video and the moment in which the woman continues with the banking procedure can be seen, with the man’s body sitting in a wheelchair, while she is observed by the other attendees in the bank. The woman, in the middle of the loan process, took the hand of the deceased man and tried to sign with her hand despite how difficult it could have been since the corpse did not achieve the objective. According to what has been established, the woman was identified as Érika Vieira and the process took place in a bank in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she tried to take out the loan for more than 17 thousand reais. At the moment it is unknown if the loan could be made because, apparently, the applicant was already deceased.

  • A Russian influencer, Maxim Lyutyi, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the death of his one-month-old son. Lyutyi reportedly believed exposing the baby, named Kosmos, to sunlight would grant him superhuman abilities. Tragically, the infant died of malnutrition and pneumonia while being rushed to the hospital in Sochi. Lyutyi had expected an early release based on a social media post in January. Now, he is facing more than eight years behind bars in a high-security prison for ‘intentional infliction of serious bodily harm,’ following his last-minute change of plea to guilty last week. Metro reported that Kosmos was born at home because Lyutyi refused to let the boy’s mother, Oksana Mironova, go to a maternity hospital. Subsequently, Lyutyi initiated a regimen for the infant centred around a strictly vegan ‘prana’ diet, emphasizing foods such as berries believed to enhance the body’s spiritual energy. According to his relatives, however, he was the first to not respect that philosophy, eating meat and pasta in secret.

  • Only twenty-four hours after saying “goodbye” to Atlas, the first humanoid robot to go viral on the web, thanks to his strong motor skills which allowed him to even try his hand at parkour, Boston Dynamics – one of the most influential companies in the world in the field of robotics – presented the “new Atlas”. This is an updated version of the old robot. Compared to the previous model, which moved thanks to a hydraulic system, the new Atlas is slimmer and is completely electric. “It was designed for real-world applications,” we read on the Boston Dynamics YouTube channel. The company, which has warded off reactionary complaints of robopocalypse for decades, has opted for a kinder, gentler design than both the original Atlas and more contemporary robots like the Figure 01 and Tesla Optimus.

  • An employee of CACI, a contractor with strong links to the Pentagon, was pushing soldiers serving in Iraq to rough-up detainees at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison, retired US Army General Antonio Taguba has testified, at a trial in which CACI denies torture. The Virginia-based consultancy is being sued by three former detainees of the infamous prison, who allege they were tortured 20 years ago. Taguba, who retired in 2007 after 35 years’ service, identified Steven Stefanowicz, aka ‘Big Steve,’ as the CACI employee who had instructed the Army guards at Abu Ghraib to “soften up” the inmates – and had even attempted to intimidate the general himself at one point. A report by Taguba in 2004 said that Stefanowicz “clearly knew his instructions equated to physical abuse” and recommended he be fired, reprimanded and lose his security clearance. According to Associated Press, his testimony on Tuesday was the strongest evidence of CACI contractors playing a role in the Abu Ghraib abuses.

  • Apple and Google “could, basically, censor whatever you can read, access on your smartphone,” Pavel Durov, the co-founder of the popular messaging app Telegram has told Tucker Carlson in an interview; he lamented that the pressure coming from the tech giants is stronger than that exerted by governments. The entrepreneur has also said he received warnings from both the Democratic and Republican parties after the January 2021 riots in the US Capitol. The rare discussion took place at the Russian-born IT entrepreneur’s office in Dubai, and was released on Wednesday. Carlson asked Durov to give an example of a request to build backdoors into Telegram that crossed into censorship, and could be considered spying, or violating people’s privacy. The messaging app claims to have over 900 million active users.

  • Belgian police barricaded the entrance to a conference of national conservatives in the capital of the EU for several hours, in what participants denounced as censorship and political repression. The event, dubbed NatCon, drew populists from both Europe and the US to Claridge, a venue in central Brussels. As Brexit architect Nigel Farage spoke on Tuesday, police blocked the entrance and prevented keynote speaker Eric Zemmour – a former French presidential candidate – from entering. “I knew I wouldn’t be welcome back in Brussels,” Farage, a former MEP, joked on stage, calling the attempt to cancel the event “simply monstrous.” “In the past, Belgium welcomed Victor Hugo in exile. From now on, this country lives between a caliphate and a dictatorship,” Zemmour said on X (formerly Twitter).

  • Thousands of children will likely regret going under the knife to change their sex as the majority of gender-confused kids have been found to shed the confusion by the time they are fully grown adults. Coming at a critical time in a child’s development, the messaging can sow tremendous confusion. And what has been missing from the conversation is how many of these young people eventually grow out of their feelings over time. One such adolescent, ‘Rebecca,’ was 11 years old when she began to identify as transgender. At the age of 13, at the emotionally sensitive time when puberty sets in, she broke the unsettling news to her friends and family. That same year, the doctors prescribed her puberty blockers and testosterone. At the tender age of 16, she went under the knife for a double mastectomy. Less than a year later, however, she understood that she’d made a terrible mistake.

  • There is growing disenchantment with the US among Ukrainians over its perceived lack of commitment to their defense, the Wall Street Journal has reported, citing the director of the Center for International Studies at the Odessa National University. Vladimir Dubovyk told the newspaper in an article on Monday that the swift action from the US and its NATO allies to fend off a massive Iranian missile and drone strike on Israel at the weekend stands in stark contrast to their apparent reluctance to beef up Ukraine’s air defenses amid its conflict with Russia. Ukrainians are “beginning to sour on the US,” Dubovyk was quoted as saying. The scholar noted that Washington played a key role “in the first two years of the war [with Russia], but now of course there’s a huge slowdown,” apparently referring to President Joe Biden’s latest aid package, which has been deadlocked by Republicans in Congress for several months.

  • A fresh analysis of a remarkably massive yet compact galaxy from the early universe suggests that dark matter interacts with itself. The galaxy, JWST-ER1, which formed just 3.4 billion years after the Big Bang, was first spotted last October in images snapped by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). At over 17 billion light-years from Earth, JWST-ER1g is the farthest-ever example of a perfect “Einstein ring” — an unbroken circle of light around the galaxy, a result of light rays from a distant, unseen galaxy being bent due to the space-warping mass of JWST-ER1. The cosmic mirage is not just a pretty sight from a lucky alignment of galaxies; it also offers physicists a valuable probe for model-independent measurements of the mass enclosed within the ring’s radius.

  • [Hollywoodism] If all the reports of mysterious objects buzzing our skies are taken as true encounters, the Earth appears to be under assault. For the chief leader of the SETI Institute, established to search for and understand life beyond Earth, there’s a need to step back and cuddle up to a cup of cosmic reality. “We don’t have any evidence of any credible source that would indicate the presence of alien technology in our skies. And we never have,” said Bill Diamond, president and chief executive officer of the SETI Institute, headquartered in Mountain View, California. “The idea that the government is keeping something like this secret is just totally absurd. There’s no motivation to do so.” SETI is a key research contractor to NASA and the National Science Foundation, and collaborates with industry partners throughout Silicon Valley. Diamond said that, while we should not outright rule out the possibility that we might someday discover evidence of alien technology in our skies, “we should equally not jump to the conclusion that UFOs are alien technology in the absence of any compelling evidence to that effect. And there is no compelling evidence,” he contends.

News Burst 18 April 2024 - Baalbek

Baalbek

Baalbek, also known as Heliopolis in Roman times, is an ancient site located in Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley. It has been settled since at least 7,000 BC, with some researchers suggesting its roots go back as many as 12,000 years. The site is known for its monumental megalithic foundations, particularly those of the Temple of Jupiter. The Temple of Jupiter was built on a platform of stones that are among the largest building blocks seen in the world. Twenty-seven of these enormous limestone blocks can be seen at its base, with three of them, known as the “Trilithon”, weighing about 1,000 tons each1. The largest known stone block from antiquity, still partially buried, measures 19.6 meters (64 feet) in length, 6 meters (19.6 feet) in width, and at least 5.5 meters (18 feet) in height. Its weight has been estimated at 1,650 tons. The way these stones were cut so finely and moved into place has defied explanation. Many researchers, including Graham Hancock, reject the traditional explanation that the blocks are the work of the Romans. Hancock suggests that these huge megaliths predate the construction of the Temple of Jupiter and are likely to be 12,000 or more years old1. He proposes that we might be looking at the handiwork of the survivors of a lost civilization. However, the actual purpose of this structure and who built it remains unknown. The immense weight and mass of these stones have led to much speculation concerning ancient alien activity at Baalbek and even that the site was an ancient landing pad for spaceships. These theories, however, are not regarded as substantial by the prevailing scholarly community. In conclusion, while the Romans and Greeks have left their mark on Baalbek, the origins of its massive megalithic structures remain a mystery, sparking intrigue and debate among researchers and enthusiasts alike. #archaeohistories

“Cloud Seeding Science” is just another term for Geo-engineering, and weather modification. First they “seed’ the clouds with heavy metal particles, and then they use HAARP to induct the rain via the electro-magnetic frequencies. They have basically confirmed everything that we have already knew years ago, that weather modification is real, however It’s just conspiracy theory when we call them out on it.
