Extraterrestrial Life Found On Venus

The Royal Astronomical Society announced a potentially revolutionary scientific discovery: They’ve detected the presence of phosphine in the atmosphere of Venus, which suggests the possible presence of biological life. Phosphine is a gas that’s a known biosignature, which means it’s only present when some for of life is also present – and more than that, it’s a gas that also has no known false positives, at least when detected on Earth, that are mistaken for phosphine and not a result of biological life.

Sterilise Criminals

Hundreds of women and activists have hit the streets across Pakistan in recent days to condemn the rape of a woman in front of her children on the highway; their outrage is fuelled by the police, who blamed the victim for the incident. Acknowledging that the country needs fresh legislation to “permanently sterilise” criminals, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for the chemical castration and public execution. “They [rapists] should be given exemplary punishments. In my opinion, they should be hanged at the chowk [intersection],” said Khan while talking to a news channel as he admitted that the rape cases have shaken the entire nation. He went on to say that another option is to “chemically or surgically castrate” rapists, in accordance with the degree of the crime.

Greenland

An enormous chunk of Greenland’s ice cap has broken off in the far northeastern Arctic.The glacier section that broke off is 110 square kilometers (42.3 square miles). It came off of the fjord called Nioghalvfjerdsfjorden, which is roughly 80 kilometers (50 miles) long and 20 kilometers (12 miles) wide, the National Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland said Monday. The glacier is at the end of the Northeast Greenland Ice Stream, where it flows off the land and into the ocean.

Patomäki gives two reasons for why Finland should aspire to rid itself of nuclear power: firstly it is not renewable energy, and secondly, storing radioactive nuclear waste poses a big problem. Instead of nuclear power, investments should be made in renewable energy, which could also become a profitable export contribution.

A major fire erupted in Beirut on Tuesday, near the entrance of the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Center, also known as BIEL, which hosts conferences and other cultural events.
