  • If the results are confirmed, then the title of the world’s oldest crater will be given to the Yarrabubba impact structure in Western Australia. Scientists estimate that the crater appeared when a meteorite measuring seven kilometres in diameter struck Earth approximately 2.2 billion years ago.

 

  • The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRCG) has released a video showing its newest “missile city” – a compound equipped with numerous systems for launching cruise and ballistic missiles of different ranges. This “missile city” is mainly an underground facility, with the IRCG building several silos to house ballistic missiles. The compound has its own missile stockpile that is also located underground, according to the video. The missile facility is also protected against electronic warfare attacks, the Iranian military claimed. All of the “city’s” equipment has been produced and developed in Iran.

  • A heavy dust storm hit Mongolia over the weekend, leaving six people killed, including one child, and over 80 people missing, media reported on Monday, citing authorities. According to the CGTN news broadcaster, Mongolia’s emergency department received reports of 548 missing people in total during the weekend, 467 of whom were found. Five herdsmen and one child were killed by the storm, the broadcaster said. The rescue operation is still ongoing for the remaining 81 people.

 

  • According to AP, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara said that he has signed a paper seeking the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to ban burqas, insisting that the garment in question “has a direct impact on national security”. “In our early days, we had a lot of Muslim friends, but Muslim women and girls never wore the burqa,” Weerasekara said. “It is a sign of religious extremism that came about recently. We will definitely ban it.”

 

  • A U.S. Border Patrol source reports the number of migrant “got-away’s” tallied by the agency surpassed 118,000 for this fiscal year. In less than six months, the “got-away” number is nearly double that for all of Fiscal Year 2020. Last year, 69,000 illegal immigrants managed to avoid apprehension by the Border Patrol. Sources report the sharpest increase began in January.

 

  • A mass trial began in Thailand on Monday (Mar 15) for activists accused of sedition and insulting the powerful monarchy at a major protest last year, one of a series of mass demonstrations against the country’s military-backed establishment. The 22 demonstrators deny charges of committing sedition and a litany of other offences, which includes lese majeste in section 112 of the Thai criminal code, a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison for each count.

 

  • Chinese scientists have unveiled next-generation wearable tech in the form of flexible, breathable electronic fabric which serves as a wearable, washable, interactive display, with diverse applications from telecoms to medicine. Polymer scientists Peining Chen and Huisheng Peng at Fudan University in Shanghai achieved the remarkable feat by weaving electrically conductive transparent fibers and luminescent threads together with cotton yarn. This intricate yet flexible framework could form the basis for ‘smart clothing’ to accompany the already largely ubiquitous smartphones and smart watches seen around the developed world today

 

  • Video allegedly showing a SAS unit committing war crimes in Afghanistan has supposedly disappeared, as an investigation into the squad’s alleged “massacres” has been plagued by missing evidence and silence from witnesses. The Royal MIlitary Police (RMP) investigators in Kabul interviewed 42 soldiers who said they were unable to remember the mission. Court documents reported on by the Times stated that a judge termed this a case of “collective amnesia.” The weapons used in the raid on Saifullah’s village were destroyed the same year [2017] the RMP opened its investigation.
