  • With Bahamanian regulators and local police investigating SBF – who last night was so drunk and/or high he tried tweeting and failed miserably… . for “criminal misconduct”, the democrat-controlled US judicial system has finally been dragged kicking and screaming into investigating the single biggest fraud in crypto history, and the second biggest Democratic donor in recent history…  just one day after Elon Musk saying that SBF will be spared any real punishment precisely because of his generosity (with other people’s money). According to Reuters, prosecutors with the Manhattan district of New York are now probing FTX’s collapse, days after the crypto exchange filed for bankruptcy protection last Friday following a rush of customer withdrawals. Reuters reported last week that at least $1 billion of customer funds have vanished from FTX, citing sources; others have said the number is much bigger, with FTX holding less than $1 billion in liquid assets vs $9 billion in liabilities. ~ Tyler Durden

  • Samuel Bankman-Fried, the founder of failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, allegedly laundered billions of dollars through Ukraine by setting up his company as the central clearinghouse for all crypto donations to Kiev’s war effort, according to the Gateway Pundit. Democratic politicians sending aid to Ukraine would see their money come back in the form of donations through FTX, the outlet claimed. Democrats responsible for overseeing the Commodity Futures Trading Commission were particular targets for his largesse, and he is now under investigation by that same agency for moving $10 billion in client assets off FTX to his hedge fund Alameda Research. While Bankman-Fried’s private jet has been tracked to Argentina, the disgraced billionaire insisted on Saturday that he was still in the Bahamas.

  • Kherson residents suspected of collaborating with Russia allegedly face public punishment, as seen in photographs released by The Associated Press (AP). Ukrainian forces took over the city last week, after the withdrawal of Russian troops. The news agency published pictures of two individuals tied to posts. A group of civilians and at least one soldier can be seen next to them. According to the AP description, the people were “alleged collaborators.” It didn’t explain how the punishment had come about. Pillorying is not part of the Ukrainian legal system but has been used by nationalists in the country in recent years.

  • Russia wants its main agricultural lender Rosselkhozbank to be reconnected to the SWIFT financial network, in order to free up grain and fertilizer exports, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said on Saturday. His comments follow a meeting with senior UN officials on Friday, addressing the deal guaranteeing safe passage to Ukraine’s grain exports via the Black Sea. Under the pact, brokered in July by the UN and Türkiye, Russia sought a sanctions reprieve for its own agricultural trade, but has since voiced discontent with UN efforts to lift Western restrictions affecting the sector. While the sanctions do not directly target Russia’s agriculture, they affect payments, insurance and shipping. Many Russian banks were disconnected from the SWIFT financial messaging system earlier this year, making it difficult to carry out direct settlements for exports.

  • Having an enemy to fight against is essential for NATO’s survival, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has claimed. The diplomat added that the bloc’s expansion is largely motivated by the need to antagonize nations so they can fit the role of an enemy. “NATO is the kind of organization that cannot live without an enemy. If it had none, it would have died,” he was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti news agency on Monday. “They have declared Asia a zone of the alliance’s interest, pushed the zone of their defense right to the border of China,” he noted. Grushko said the conflict in Ukraine stems from NATO’s declared intention to eventually accept Kiev as a new member, while ignoring Russia’s national security concerns. The alliance is still trying to bring in Ukraine, he said, adding that he doesn’t believe the US and its allies are acting rationally on the issue.

  • Minerals are becoming an issue of national security thanks to the transition to electric cars that are hugely reliant on lithium. They are also used in cellphones, tablet computers and electronics in general. While the US does not produce enough lithium, China controls two-thirds of the world’s lithium-processing capacity. The US military is weighing possible participation in Canadian mining projects, media outlets have reported. According to the reports, the Pentagon has received hundreds of millions of dollars under the 1950 Defense Production Act invoked by President Biden. This act allows using public funds to be invested in key industries essential for national security. Currently, there is only one lithium mine in the US and its production accounts for only 1% of global lithium output.

  • The tender process for the sale of the port of Alexandroupolis in Greece, through which the US and NATO supply arms to Ukraine, has been officially canceled. A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF), which, among other things, discussed the tender for the sale of a controlling stake in the Port Authority of Alexandroupolis (OLA S.A.) decided to cancel the tender process. HRADF, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Maritime and Island Policy, will immediately take all necessary measures to further develop the Port of Alexandroupolis. According to Ioannis Kotsailidis, a military expert and president of the Panhellenic Movement of Greek-Russian Friendship, the cancelation of the tender for the privatization of the port once again proves the important role that Alexandroupolis, essentially an American military base, plays for the transportation of NATO military equipment. He believes that in the midst of war, the last thing the US would want is for the port to “float away” into private hands.

  • A peculiar sight has been captured on film in Homestead, Florida, leading some social media users to speculate about possible UFO involvement. In undated footage that emerged on social media earlier this month, several bright lights can be seen descending in the night sky, initially moving as a tight group before dispersing. The lights appeared to move side to side as they continued their descent, before vanishing completely. While some netizens appeared puzzled by this sight, many were quick to suggest a comparatively mundane explanation for this spectacle – a night jump performed by members of the US Army Parachute Team known as the Golden Knights.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Indian National Center for Space Promotion and Authorization (IN-SPACe) in June to increase private companies’ participation in rocket launches. Until now, space missions had only been launched by the government-run Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). India will script history on Tuesday as the country’s first privately-developed rocket “Vikram-S” will launch from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)’s launchpad at Andhra Pradesh state’s Sriharikota island. Named after Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India’s space program, the country’s first private rocket was developed by a Hyderabad-based startup called Skyroot Aerospace.

  • Unveiling the first full-year budget since the economic crisis hit the nation, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Monday the government will take necessary steps to establish the legal framework for the export of products containing marijuana. “A special committee is to be appointed to explore the cultivation of marijuana for export purposes,” the president said. Cannabis’ use, other than for medicinal purposes, is considered criminal activity under the law which can lead any violator to prison and a hefty monetary fine. In addition, to regularize the local tobacco (Beedi) industry, the budget has proposed to impose a tax of SLR 2 Per Beedi stick.

  • When NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft flew by the strange world of Neptune’s largest moon, Triton, three decades ago, it imaged a world as stunning as it was puzzling, revealing massive, dark plumes of icy material spraying out from its surface, a captured Kuiper Belt object that evolved, a potential ocean world with active plumes, an energetic ionosphere and a young, unique surface. Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft ever to have flown past Neptune, leaving a trail of intriguing, unanswered questions that NASA hopes to answer. How could an ancient moon six times farther from the Sun than Jupiter still be active? Is there something in its interior that is still warm enough to drive this activity? A new mission competing for selection under NASA’s Discovery Program aims to untangle these mysteries. Called Trident, like the three-pronged spear carried by the ancient Roman sea god Neptune, the team is one of four that is developing concept studies for new missions.
