  • Tonje Gjevjon, an artist and lesbian, was informed on November 17 that she was under police investigation for hate speech after making a post on Facebook*. She is now facing criminal charges and could even find herself behind bars for up to three years. Gjevjon lashed out on social media against trans-identifying males who call themselves “lesbians.” She also raged against the trans activists who have targeted her and others who oppose their gender ideology. “It’s just as impossible for men to become lesbian as it is for men to become pregnant,” Gjevjon wrote in her post, translated on the social media site, adding, “Men are men regardless of their sexual fetishes.”

  • Mikhail Podoliak, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, has accused Twitter of hiding trends related to the ongoing conflict in the country. The official took to the social media platform on Tuesday, blasting the platform’s CEO, billionaire Elon Musk, directly. “‘War in Ukraine’ disappearance from Twitter trends. Radical curtailment of tweets mentioning ru-aggression coverage. Users aren’t allowed to register or log into accounts with Ukrainian phone number,” Podoliak wrote. According to Twitter, its trends are “determined by an algorithm and, by default, are tailored for you based on who you follow, your interests, and your location.” The algorithm “identifies topics that are popular now, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or on a daily basis.”

  • A group of Ethiopian researchers along with Kenyan human rights campaigners have filed a lawsuit against Facebook owner Meta Platforms, accusing the tech giant of amplifying hate speech and incitements to violence on the site. Filed in Kenya’s High Court on Tuesday, the constitutional petition claims that Facebook’s recommendations algorithm amplified violent posts and contributed to Ethiopia’s ongoing bloody civil war. Some of those messages allegedly resulted in the murder of chemistry professor Maereg Amare – the father of one of the plaintiffs, according to legal non-profit Foxglove, which is providing support for the case.

  • Dust devils – swirling, tornado-like wind phenomena that commonly occur across the world’s deserts – are no stranger to the surface of Mars. First detected by a NASA Mars Pathfinder lander in 1997, these twisting columns are plentiful on the Red Planet. But research led by Naomi Murdoch of Toulouse University, France, has revealed what they sound like. The rover has a masthead camera – SuperCam – that includes a microphone, and this enabled it to record the sound of the wind rising and falling as the vortex skittered by. The reason dust devils were detected but not “heard” previously is because the rover’s microphone is only turned on for a few seconds approximately twice a week, revealed the study.

  • Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk is continuing to release material within the framework of his “Twitter Files” dump, which remains largely ignored by the US mainstream media. “Elon Musk dubbed the platform ‘a crime scene.’ Hek taking over Twitter is encouraging and has revealed evidence that corroborates what many of us have long suspected, but there are still many unanswered questions and of course no indication that Musk is near the end of his revelations,” Jason Goodman, a US investigative journalist and founder of Crowdsource the Truth, said.

  • New material Musk released over the weekend confirms the very worst. The banal boys and girls previously ensconced in Twitter’s top echelons were not only having a jolly time attempting to steer the nation’s news narrative; these executives were actually meeting weekly with FBI, Homeland Security and national intelligence officials to discuss “disinformation” they wanted removed from the site, including the notorious suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story. That’s just one step removed from a state-run Ministry of Truth and is perhaps even more insidious. That’s because it didn’t even involve unwanted and unconstitutional coercion. Instead, the executives of this private enterprise were voluntarily neglecting their day jobs (maximizing corporate profits and shareholder value) in order to spend a huge amount of corporate time and resources propagating official narratives and suppressing dissenting views. ~ David Stockman

  • Northern Kenya has long attracted archaeologists with stone pillar sites, the most famous of which are the Namoratunga and Lothagam North located on the western shores of Lake Turkana. This time, the Jarigole site provided scholars with a valuable discovery. A 5,000-year-old burial site was discovered by archaeologists on the eastern part of Lake Turkana in Kenya as part of the the Jarigole stone pillar site. “The new findings from the Jarigole site resolve long-standing questions about eastern Africa’s earliest monuments and provide insight into the social lives, and deaths, of the region’s first pastoralists,” says the study published in Cambridge University’s Antiquity Journal. The personal adornments were buried along with their owners, one of whom was found with “more than 100 amazonite and other stone beads near their neck and chest, which were perhaps worn as a necklace.”

  • Co-founder and former CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey said on Wednesday that he was the one responsible for the company’s susceptibility to government and corporate influence. “Social media must be resilient to corporate and government control. Only the original author may remove content they produce. Moderation is best implemented by algorithmic choice. The Twitter when I led it and the Twitter of today do not meet any of these principles. This is my fault alone, as I completely gave up pushing for them when an activist entered our stock in 2020,” he wrote in his personal blog. Dorsey said he realized that companies have become “far too powerful” once Twitter suspended the account of former US President Donald Trump in January 2021. His biggest mistake was investing in the development of tools allowing the company “to manage the public conversation,” instead of “building tools for the people using Twitter to easily manage it for themselves,” Dorsey added. This, according to the former CEO, “burdened the company with too much power” and made it susceptible to “outside pressure.”

  • The Pulitzer Prize Board bestowed a prestigious US journalism award on media outlets that were misleading Americans, Donald Trump has reportedly alleged in a defamation lawsuit against the body. Fox News claimed the former US president’s legal complaint centers on the New York Times’ and Washington Post’s coverage of the supposed ‘collusion’ between Trump and Russia during the 2016 presidential election campaign. In a report on Tuesday, Fox News said it had gained access to the lawsuit filed by Trump’s team in Okeechobee County, Florida on the same day. According to the article, the document describes the board’s 2018 decision to award the Times and the Post as having been based on a “demonstrably false connection.” The propagation of the “Russia Collusion Hoax” narratives in the US media led to a “tremendous misunderstanding” among a “large swath of Americans,” the plaintiffs reportedly argued.
