Aged 25 to 30 when he died 1,700 years ago, he is from the mountainous region of modern-day Khakassia.
A new CT scan has revealed the face behind his painted gypsum death mask that were all the rage with the ancient Tashtyk people, who were settled cattle-breeders and farmers known for their idiosyncratic burial rituals. He is also the only Tashtyk mummy so far found with tattoos.

In the expansion of its iron ore mine in Western Pilbara, Rio Tinto blasted the Juukan Gorge 1 and 2 – Aboriginal rock shelters dating back 46,000 years. These sites had deep historical and cultural significance. The shelters are the only inland site in Australia showing human occupation continuing through the last Ice Age. The mining blast caused significant distress to the Puutu Kunti Kurrama traditional land owners. It’s an irretrievable loss for future generations. Miner Rio Tinto RIO.AX said on Friday its chief executive and two senior executives will step down amid mounting shareholder criticism of its destruction of historically significant Aboriginal rockshelters and the way it managed its response.

Authorities in Oregon now say more than 500,000 people statewide have been forced to evacuate because of wildfires. More than 1,400 square miles (3,625 square kilometers) have burned this week in the state. At a conference Thursday, Gov. Kate Brown said there have been fatalities but the exact number is not yet known. Officials say some areas are still impossible to reach, meaning the number is likely to rise.

Once the coal mining capital of Central Kolyma, it was ghosted after the 1996 mine explosion. Kadykchan was set up by coal miners in the 1930s. In summer 1941 first barges with hundreds of prisoners arrived in the town of Khandyda in Yakutia. Their role was to build the 733 km long road from Khandyga in Yakutia to Kadykhchan in Magadan region, later named The Road of Bones for the number of lives it took.
