- UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the “golden era” of relations between Britain and China is over and called the People’s Republic a “systemic challenge” to the UK’s values and interests on Monday. “UK-China relations have been deteriorating for several years, for many reasons but especially because of Hong Kong,” Jonathan Sullivan, professor of political science and director of China programs at the University of Nottingham’s Asia Research Institute in the UK, told Sputnik. “But Sunak is taking a much less anti-China position than [his predecessor Liz] Truss. If Truss had remained in power for more than seven weeks, relations with China would have got much worse very quickly. But with Sunak – who is a businessman at heart – there is an opportunity to take a less hard-edged approach to China.”
- The Disney corporation has distanced itself from the conservative values of its founder Walt Disney in recent years, drawing criticism for the ‘woke’ themes in its series of Star Wars sequels and spin-offs. It has opposed legislation in Florida, home to the Disney World theme park, to ban teachers from discussing their sexuality with students. Disney has sparked a Twitstorm after a clip of child actors spelling out “We Love You Satan” went viral. Twitter users were outraged at the scene from a new show on Disney+, the entertainment giant’s TV streaming service. One cited it as evidence the increasingly ‘woke’ liberal corporation is promoting Satanism and other content that challenges traditional family values to kids.
- The Australian Department of Health has proposed a ban on all flavored cigarettes, as well as requiring tobacco manufacturers to make cigarettes in “ugly” and “unattractive” colors, ABC reported. About 10 years ago, Australia obligated tobacco manufacturers to abandon overly “attractive” designs for cigarette packs. Now the Australian Health Ministry is focused on cigarette sticks. “The aim is to achieve a national daily smoking prevalence of less than 10 per cent by 2025, in just three years, and five per cent or less by 2030,” he added Australian Health Minister Mark Butler was quoted as saying by ABC News. The shape and size of the cigarettes will be standardized, and additives will be banned. Such actions will put an end to menthol cigarettes. The Australian authorities will also try to make cigarettes less attractive by printing health warnings directly on them and by using unusual colors.
- As Russia calls for an investigation into US-sponsored biological laboratories near its borders in Ukraine, former Indonesian officials tell how Jakarta managed to shut down an US biolab. Biological weapons have been developed on Russia’s borders, stated Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on November 25. “[Moscow] has every reason to believe that components of biological weapons have been developed in the immediate vicinity of Russian borders”, he explained, pointing at dozens of US-sponsored biolabs in Ukraine. Russia promised to present evidence at the 9th Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention in Switzerland in December. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, some of these laboratories worked with Gilead, a Pentagon-affiliated subcontractor – a company that has also cooperated with the US Navy’s biological laboratory NAMRU-2 – the Naval Medical Research Unit, which operated in Indonesia from 1970 to 2009. Two former Indonesian officials have told that the Jakarta-based lab, which the Americans and some members of the Indonesian elite saw as a strategic asset, was involved in questionable research practices and breached Indonesia’s national security.
- The 9th International Landscape Photographer of the Year competition attracted both experienced and inexperienced photographers worldwide. The award recognizes the most picturesque photos, and, with a hefty prize of $5,000 for first place, every landscape photographer was eager to showcase their talent. Prizes were awarded in categories such as: international landscape photographer of the year, snow and ice award, and seascape award. This year, among more than 3,800 entries from around the world, first place went to Benjamin Briones Grandi from Chile, in the best photographer of the year category, with a series of images, one of which is Grandi Andes Interior. Second place went to Tony Wang from China. The US photographer Martin Broen won in the single photo category with his amazing image Flooded Cave. The Seascape Award went to French photographer Julien Delaval with Lost Sea.
- Germany is negotiating with Poland and Kazakhstan the alternatives to the supply of Russian raw materials to the oil refinery in the city of Schwedt in preparation for the upcoming ban on Russian oil imports, Deputy Economy Minister from the Green party Michael Kellner said on Wednesday. The first trial supply from the Polish city of Gdansk was planned for the beginning of the month, he said, adding that Warsaw was interested in further supplies, since the Schwedt refinery was contributing to the security of west Poland’s oil supply. According to the lawmaker, a meeting with a government delegation from Kazakhstan was also expected to take place in Berlin in December.
- Paris is being hypocritical in its desire to sponsor grain exports from Ukraine to Africa, Malian journalist Moussa Naby Diakite stated. Emmanuel Macron surprised many by saying he wanted to sponsor the shipment of Ukrainian grain to vulnerable countries as part of the agreement between Moscow and Kiev. The French president is paying lip service to these relief efforts, Malian journalist Moussa Naby Diakite said, noting that Europeans were the primary beneficiaries of these agreements. “It is a lot of hypocrisy, because Europe is the first to benefit from this aid. - EU lawmakers are looking for legal ways to confiscate Russian assets that have been frozen as part of Western sanctions and to use these to help Ukraine. The issue of a legal seizure of Russian state and private assets held abroad has been debated for months by EU officials. However, the bloc’s desired mechanism is not easy to apply, as in most EU nations seizing frozen assets is only legally possible when there is a criminal conviction. So far the EU and its allies have blocked €300 billion (over $310 billion) of Russian Central Bank reserves and have frozen €19 billion in assets of Russian individuals. Moscow has called the seizures illegal, and has said that, effectively, they constitute theft.

- In a new investigation, Italy’s finance authorities allege that Pfizer’s Italian unit, Pfizer Italia Srl, hid profits of at least 1.2 billion euros ($1.2 billion) by transferring money to Pfizer units in other countries, Bloomberg reports from people familiar with the investigation. Specifically, the allegations reportedly say that Pfizer Italia Srl transferred “excess capital” to Pfizer affiliates in the U.S. and the Netherlands to avoid taxes that could be as high as 26%. The investigation began this February and covers 2017, 2018 and 2019, the people told Bloomberg. In those three years, Pfizer’s global adjusted net profit reached $33 billion.
- Pfizer’s chief executive Albert Bourla, Ph.D., has been rapped by the UK’s pharmaceutical watchdog for making “misleading” statements about children’s vaccines. The claims have reportedly been branded “misleading” and “overly promotional.” That’s the latest finding in an ongoing case at the British pharmaceutical marketing regulator the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA), The Telegraph reports. In an interview with the BBC on Dec. 2, 2021, Bourla said “there is no doubt in my mind that the benefits, completely, are in favour of” vaccinating youngsters ages 5 to 11 against COVID. He added that: “COVID in schools is thriving […] This is disturbing, significantly, the educational system, and there are kids that will have severe symptoms.”
